I like some of the ideas you're running with on this one. I happen to be a fan of Brian Giles coming here. He's mostly a doubles kind of guy that would get around 20-25 HR's here. He's a solid, professional player too.
I don't really want to see us pursue Burnett too hard. I think he is over-rated and will get way too much money on the free agent market. I'd rather see us use Morris as a stop gap in our rotation. Then bring back Farnsworth for the pen. He brings a bit of edge to the group that they seemed to lack after he was traded.
If I went wishlisting, I'd like to see us bring back Jeff Weaver for the rotation, but I suspect he'd pretty much fall down laughing if we called after how he was ushered out of town. Naturally, I wouldn't complain about us making a run for a younger talent like Furcal. We could use an emerging star versus someone on the backside of his career.
On that subject,we're stuck with Pudge's contract unless we take on someone else's really crappy contract. At least Pudge gives us a fairly decent defensive catcher for the next couple of years. We'll have to hope for somone then.
