Tigers Want Heilman

PrintA small little article in the Ottawa Sun today has this to say about the Tigers and some rumors involving the team:
- Needs: A closer and a starter.
- Wants: RHP A.J. Burnett. RP Aaron Heilman but the Mets want C Ivan Rodriguez in return.
- Available: DH-1B Dmitri Young or 1B Carlos Pena. There doesn't appear room in the order for both of them.
Similar to the Kris Benson rumor, except Heilman had more impressive numbers last season, with a pretty low ERA (3.17) and whip (1.15). It all goes back to whether or not we want to dive into the chase for a free agent catcher or acquire one via trade if we ship Pudge off. That and I believe we would have to get something more in return if we send Pudge to NY.

If the Tigers Can Get
Hernandez or Molina to Detroit to catch, then let's go ahead and send off Pudge right now. I would love to the Tigers get Heilman as long as we have a pretty good catching option next season.
