Fifth Starter

Today, in signing Kenny Rogers, the Tigers paid an exhorbant amount of money to have an established top of the order pitcher.  Kenny will offer great things to the younger pitchers on the staff currently and the pitchers to come in a short while as far as experience is concerned.

My question though is who do you want as a fifth starter for the beginning of the season.

My personal desire would be for the Tigers to sign another pitcher that could fill the middle of the order, bumping Robertson or Maroth to the 5th spot.

With Verlander and Zumaya both in the wings I would look for a 1 year fill.  My pick would be none other that Kevin Brown.

If we had to fill within the organization I would want to keep Verlander and Zumaya both in AAA ball  because there is no reason to rush them.  I would take Grilli or Baugh and fill the fifth spot.

But what would YOU do?

At This Point...
I would like to obtain Carl Pavano.

If that falls through, I would like us to sign another established FA pitcher.  That would be my choice.

article on fox sports
i was browsing around on fox sports a few minutes ago and the article that talked about the tigers signing rogers and jones quoted dombroski to be saying that he is not going to go after another veteran sp and that he would leave the 5th spot open for competition with the younger arms.

but man, if the yanks are really ready to give up on pavano, i would take him as well.

the link for the article is currently on their main page but here it is anyways: http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/5151032

I know some people may disagree....
and I dont know his health status....

but I really think Wil Ledezma has a great arm and it would definately be worth giving him another shot if he shows some promise over the winter and in ST. I think he has the potential to be a great start for us if we work him into it right.

ledezma
maybe ledezma is one of the younger guys that dombrowski is talking about when he is saying that he wants to keep the fifth spot open.

good to hear another voice out there as well, grozzy, keep em coming.

Ledezma
Wouldn't that give us 4 lefties in the rotation?

I don't know if I would want that...I mean unless they are all giving us a lot of quality starts.

Ledezma may need to do the bullpen thing for now, be a spot starter if needed.
