Some Rule V Draft Action

The Tigers acquired LHP Edward Campusano from the Brewers today in return for cash considerations.  Milwaukee selected Campusano from the Chicago Cubs organization in the Rule V draft before shipping him to the Tigers.

Campusano's numbers (from the last 2 seasons) look like this:

Year  G   Rec  ERA   Ks  BBs
2005  20  2-2  2.45  25  14
2006  44  2-1  1.46  81  17

Car.  93  7-10 3.32  161 62

One thing that is pretty impressive about this guy is the little number of homeruns he has given up throughout his career.  Over 157.2 IP in his minor league career he has only given up 10 homers.  The Tigers were looking for a lefty reliever, and this guy fits that need at least.

The highest experience he has gotten is at the AA level, but according to Jason Beck the Tigers have to treat him like he was an actual rule V pick of their team - meaning he has to stay on the 25-man roster for the entire season or pay the Cubs $25,000.

Could be a great move
traded cash considerations for him, and he fits an obvious need on the roster...apparently there was a buzz about this guy going into the Rule V draft too (according to Beck, I believe).  If he has any type of success in the upcoming season, this will look to be a genius move by the Tigers front office.

definitely has potential to work out well
especially considering how much money free agent lefty relievers are seeking
