Around SBN: Knicks Beat Lakers With Familiar Strategy

Open Thread - Game 15: Royals (3-11) at Tigers (9-5), 1:05 p.m. EST

Gil Meche (1-1, 3.10) vs. Jeremy Bonderman (0-0, 2.57)

The Tigers go for the sweep today, in an afternoon matinee at Comerica Park.  It could be kind of a nasty day at the ballgame, though it appears that there's a better chance of rain later in the evening.  Mostly, it'll just be gloomy.

Once again, Bonderman finds himself in a clash of aces.  And if you're suppressing a snicker at that comment, consider that Meche has been outstanding in two of his three starts this season. (Of course, that one bad outing was against your Detroit Tigers.) For his career, Meche is 5-4 with a 4.33 ERA against Detroit.

For Bondo's sake, let's hope the Tigers give him a few more runs than they were able to manage last time, in what might have been the game of his career thus far.  How about getting the guy a win today?  It's not like he hasn't earned it.  Bonderman has already faced the Royals once this season, striking out eight batters in six innings.

Despite Pudge Rodriguez's dominance of Kansas City pitching throughout his career, he'll be sitting out this one, as Jim Leyland looks to give his catcher a two-day break, including tomorrow's off-day on the schedule.

Can we please start Thames in place of Casey?
and send Fernando Rodney to somewhere far away?

Thames over Casey
...sounds great to me.

I don't know if that will ever happen on a consistent basis, though.  The only scenario we may see this is with an injury to Casey.

RE: Casey injury
is it classless to root for Casey to get injured?

Call me classless.

Tough loss once again...
Bondo just can't seem to pitch on the right days.  2 out of 3 ain't bad, but it would have been very nice to get a sweep over the Royals in this one.
