A Closer Look at Junichi Tazawa
If you're curious about this 22-year-old Japanese phenom that the Detroit Tigers are pursuing, our SB Nation broham site, Driveline Mechanics, has a four-part breakdown of Junichi Tazawa's delivery, complete with pictures and video.
What's the best aspect of his mechanics?
Ball Release: Junichi uses his glove arm like many Japanese pitchers do - he sticks it straight out with the palm facing first base (for a RHP) and rotates it into his front side. This is great, and it helps add to the velocity of any given pitch he throws. He sets up well for a good followthrough. Excellent.
Honestly, this is all a bit technical for me, but it's interesting to read what Tazawa does well, what affects his velocity, and what could lead to trouble down the line if he doesn't refine his delivery.
If you have eight-and-a-half minutes to spare, here's some video of Tazawa in action:

That not bad
He looks like in the video he has fairly good control on his low 90’s fastball and a real nice breaking ball. Like to see him as reliever than a starter.
