Scott Boras, You So Crazy!
So Scott Boras says he doesn't expect his client, Magglio Ordonez, to be traded by the Detroit Tigers. I don't suppose he's at all influenced by the "five-and-ten rule" (five years with the same team, and 10 years major league service means he can void any trade) kicking in for The Big Tilde if he plays this season in Detroit.
Ordonez also has a limited no-trade clause, which can block deals to all but 10 teams. (We know that the Red Sox, Cubs, Yankees, and Rays are among those clubs.) But I'm sure any team that showed a willingness to pick up at least one of the two option years on his contract would suddenly look much more appealing to Team Boras.
Meanwhile, let's consider just how much Boras is capable of overreaching. He told the Boston Globe that Jason Varitek's worth on the open market should be measured against the four-year, $52 million contract Jorge Posada signed last year with the Yankees.
It's doubtful that any team is going to offer those kinds of terms, but if that's the price Boras is seeking, I think we can safely scratch Varitek from the Tigers' off-season shopping list (if he was ever there to begin with).

Boras
Boras lives in a dream world. He has singlehandedly turned free agency into a money-grubbing, blood sucking facade. 4 years and 52 mil for Varitek? Disgusting.
Under the right circumstances, Boras would try to sell a cookie to a diabetic and then convince the buyer he made the right choice.

I kinda feel like if Scott Boras is saying Maggs won’t be traded, it’s a near certainty that he will be.
