Furcal Wants Four Years
Any excitement over the Detroit Tigers pursuing Rafael Furcal to be their shortstop next season might have to be tempered with the following news. According to SI.com's Jon Heyman, Furcal is looking for a long-term deal from his new team.
Multitalented free-agent shortstop Rafael Furcal is said to be looking for a four-year deal, which is surely more than the Dodgers want to offer.
[snip]
Furcal hit .357 for the year, and he looked healthy when he returned to play in the playoffs, but a source said the Dodgers were concerned after he took longer to return than was originally projected.
I suppose this shouldn't be a surprise. Players always want more years (and, of course, more money), and usually end up with the team willing to offer that. But if each of Furcal's potential suitors are concerned about his health, it might be difficult for him to find a four-year deal.
Heyman finally mentions that the Tigers and Orioles make sense for Furcal, if the Dodgers bow out. And if it's more a question of money, rather than years, Detroit has proven they're willing to be competitive in such a scenario.

Here's one who doesn't care what Furcal 'wants'!
You know what ol’ Zap wants? I want to see Inge play SS this spring. I spouted off about this during the season a couple of times, but it is becoming more and more clear. He hits like a SS, has the range, athleticism, and arm. It would solve numerous issues, as Carlos could then return to 3B, leaving left for Joyce/Thomas. Larish can back up Carlos. I know, I know….Inge hasn’t played there since highschool, but you do SEE what paying a couple of prospects and 10 million in cash gets you, no?
