Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

Curtis Gets the Finger from the DL

Put the Easter eggs down before you read this.  Instead of injury speculation in the previous post, we now have some injury confirmation, courtesy of MLive.com's Danny Knobler.

Curtis Granderson was hit on the right hand by a pitch in yesterday's game vs. the Philadelphia Phillies, and the injury was initially thought to be nothing more than a bruise.  Unfortunately, after X-rays were taken of Granderson's hand, a non-displaced was found in his right middle finger.  According to Knobler, Curtis is expected to be out of the lineup for three weeks.

So who plays center field in Granderson's absence?  Jacque Jones?  Ryan Raburn?  Brandon Inge, if he's not traded?  Does this put Freddy Guzman on the Opening Day roster?

And who bats leadoff?  Jones?  Edgar Renteria?  Placido Polanco?

Why does bad news always follow the good in this life?  Or is that just my own personal belief?

Granderson replacement
Re-signing Timo may not been a bad idea. If Jones can still play cf and Timo still hitting well then he play lf against righties. Let Raburn or Inge play against lefties. Guzman has hit well too and has lots of speed. This will be interesting you they keep. Polanco would be cool leading off especially against lefties.

Inge to the rescue?
Odds were it wasn't happening anyway, despite Leyland's "gut feeling," but so much for the idea of trading Inge for bullpen help this week. Situations like this are exactly why Inge is more valuable to the Tigers as a super-sub than to any other team as a 3rd baseman.

If Granderson's only going to be out 3-4 weeks, the Tigers should be fine with some combination of Inge, Raburn, and Jones in CF. I'm more concerned over who's going to bat leadoff.

Re: Sports Talk Radio
Someone on 97.1 suggested the Tigers sign Reed Johnson, who was just cut by the Blue Jays.  I almost drove my car into a tree.  Caputo rightfully cut the fool off.

Because life hates us, Ian.  Duh.
