The Injury Bug Crawls Down to Toledo
Whatever bad juju the Detroit Tigers seem to have picked up at the beginning of this season may have found its way down I-75 to the top farm club, as well. Pitcher Macay McBride, whom the Tigers were converting from reliever to starter, left last night's game against the Durham Bulls after the first inning with pain in his elbow. And today, the Mud Hens placed him on the 15-day disabled list.
The Freep's Jon Paul Morosi reports that McBride will undergo a MRI exam today or tomorrow in Detroit to determine the extent of the damage.
One possible bit of good news from the game, however, was reliever Clay Rapada pitching three hitless innings (striking out three batters in the process). Rapada dealt with his own injury troubles during the spring, nursing a sore shoulder. In just 1/3 of an inning, he allowed two hits and two walks.

Thought Durham Bulls were double-A?
I just remember visiting family down in Carolina a while back, (15 years ago? more?) and there was a Bulls game on TV, and this guy named something like Kevin Connor, or Kevin O'Connor made the most ridiculous throw I've ever seen in a baseball game.
The batter poked one into the right field corner, a solid double, but since he hit it to right field, he or their base coach thought he could stretch it out and get to third. Well, this O'Connor kid had other ideas, and unleashed the mother of al' frozen ropes, right field corner to third base on the fly, and nailed the runner.
Granted, the quality of the throw has probably improved with age, but that still stands as the greatest outfield assist I've ever seen. Never heard of O'Connor after that, though....
All that as prologue to say that I could swear that the Bulls were Double-A back then....I'm probably just misremembering, though
