Game 66: White Sox (37-28) at Tigers (28-37)
Chicago White Sox at Detroit Tigers, Jun 12, 2008 1:05 PM EDT
Mark Buehrle (3-6, 4.80) vs.
Kenny Rogers (4-4, 5.13)
During last night's FSN Detroit "Tigers Live" post-game show, Justin Verlander was asked if the team felt satisfied after clinching a series win over the AL Central-leading White Sox. Fortunately, he dismissed that notion. The Tigers have displayed a lack of mental toughness plenty of times throughout this season, and sitting back and relaxing today, as if they've really accomplished something, would be yet another example of that. They need to finish this series off decisively.
Both Kenny Rogers and Mark Buehrle come into today's game having lost two of their last three starts. While Buehrle has given up 11 runs (10 earned) over those three games, however, Rogers has put together his best stretch of the season, allowing just five runs (three earned) over 21 innings.
For yesterday's GameThread, we ran a picture of a popular adult beverage that can be purchased at the ballpark. And the Tigers won the game. So at the suggestion of rock n rye (a popular Detroit soda himself), we'll run something else related to... ginger ale to try and keep that good ju-ju going. If you're talking ginger ale in Detroit, you must be talking Vernor's.

Ah, yes. Ginger and fizz feels good in your tum-tum.
Something else to watch out for today? Ozzie Guillen doesn't hold much affection for today's home plate umpire, Phil Cuzzi, and the feeling just might be mutual. Here's a quote from April, courtesy of the Chicago Sun-Times' Joe Cowley:
"I don't like that guy behind the plate," Guillen said then. "And I'm going to let him know. I don't like him. He don't like me, I don't like him."
Oooh, this could be fun.

Jacque Jones DFA'ed again!
In case you were curious how he was doing, Jacque was designated for assignment by the Florida Marlins yesterday, after batting .108 in 18 games.

He might be done. Tore another ligament in his throwing elbow.

Too bad for Vance.
He’s a really good guy. I sat next to his wife and daughter at Game 4 of the ALCS and they couldn’t have been friendlier. Hopefully, this won’t be the way he goes out.
uh oh..
Buehrle’s dealin’. They have to make him work, tire him out.

Win the central
How many wins will it take to win this crappy division? 85?

Another quality start
And I’m not sure about the one run that they charged to Kenny. I thought it should have been unearned.
How’d we score?

If anyone has extra time after this game...
The Cubs are doing something pretty cool on WGN. They’re playing a throwback game with a throwback telecast. WGN is celebrating 60 years of broadcasting the Cubs and are showing it in black & white and the main camera is from the pressbox, not right-centerfield.
closer not closing
Why does it always seem like closers have a hard time holding a game they are not slosing?? hope thats not the case here

so the Whitesox’s only run came on an error, right? no earned runs for the gambler then today? he has looked terrific the last 3 starts..I take back everything I said about him.
Is this heaven?
Sweep against the sucks. A win with less then 3 runs scored. Kenny great, TJ with another save. Miggy with Walk Off HR. This is Heaven :D
