Guillermo Moscoso?

Tell me about this guy. I saw a post on minorleagueball.com about him so i looked him up and saw that his numbers were absolutely sick. i guess he's an extreme flyball pitcher, which concerns me a bit. but you can't argue with those numbers. is he simply old for his league? what kind of stuff does he have? does he project to start or relieve?

is he for real? thanks for the help.

my take

I’ve been sweet on this dude for a couple months now.

Looking at baseball-reference:

He’s been slightly old (like maybe a year) for his leagues. I think this is due in part to his size; he’s 6’1, 165, so maybe they don’t think he’ll project? Not sure why he progressed so slow. Could be something even less relevant, like bad English, or something.

His stuff might not project, but he clearly has pretty good control, and an out pitch that works for his level. Better than 9 K/9? Better than 5 K/BB? Major Leaguers with those numbers are the guys winning Cy Youngs.

The flyball tendencies may or may not be worrisome. Here’s my hunch…given his numbers, he’s a first pitch fastball pitcher. That’s going to get you ahead on a lot of hitters, if you can get it by them. Sometimes they’re going to pound it. Below AA, hitters may not realize that you’re always going to throw a strike first thing, and fewer guys are going to be able to hit it out. It will be interesting to see if he gives up a lot of HR in Toledo, is what I’m saying. It’s obviously a worse problem if he can’t continue to strike guys out; maybe he doesn’t need 9 K/9, but he might be in trouble if it goes below 6.

From what I can tell, the fastball is around 90, up to maybe 94. Can’t find anything else on his stuff.
