"And that’s where the Pudge conundrum became apparent: He wanted to play every game, but he did not always want to make every single play. He won a Gold Glove in 2007 more because of his name than his defense. He had gained a reputation within the organization for failing to call for breaking balls with runners on base, because he didn’t want to block pitches in the dirt. He also had a tendency to get frustrated at the plate, and that carried over to his defense."
