Around SBN: Jerry Sandusky's Wife Tries To Run A Reporter Over

Former Detroit Tigers first baseman Sean Casey will be retiring, and taking a job with MLB Network.

Hal McCoy mentioned this a couple of days ago, but WEEI.com made it official.

Just as we mentioned with Kenny Rogers, we'll always have 2006 with Casey. He was basically the only bat that showed up for the World Series vs. the Cardinals. (.529/.529/1.000, two homers, five RBIs)

Tip of the caps and slow claps for The Mayor.

speaking of whom/which….flipping through channels, and see the listing for Game 3 of the 2006 World Series on MLB TV, and….just have to watch, you know? I know it’s gonna end badly, but….

Anyway, it’s the game started by Nate Robertson, and it was a a bit of a shock to see the guy who was so perfectly AWFUL last year starting a world series game.

And if I recall right, the two runs he just gave up in the 4th are all he was responsible for, it’s just that the Tigers didn’t do jack or squat against Carpenter all night.

it’s top of the 5th right now, and Casey is at the bat…and there’s joy in Mudville, for mighty Casey did NOT strike out, he just dropped a hit into short left field.

Here’s to a fruitful retirement for the guy…though I gotta say, my biggest memory of the guy will forever be the way his calf exploded during the ALCS….something about the way the pant leg just puffed out when that happened will haunt me for a long time…

I forgot about the exploding calf…..ah, the memories! Good luck to The Mayor! I’m hoping dish will pick up MLB network so I can see him every now and then. Even though his career as a Tiger was short, he will always be one of my favorites!!!!!

Jones, Rogers, Casey...

They’re dropping like flies. Who’s next?

I will never forget...

the second to last day of the 07 season at the Cell when Casey, knowing he was not coming back, knowing the season was over, damn near killed himself scoring from first on a Magglio double.

The guy was a pro all the way. We will be seeing him soon on some broadcast network (MLB TV should be all over this guy) unless he wants to be a hitting or bench coach.

Class all the way. Thank you, Mr. Mayor.

I missed Ian's lead...

He is already at MLB network. Good for us!

Thanks Mr. Mayor!

Here’s a good Casey story. Please note: this is actually a post from a couple of years ago authored by flannerj from a Cubbies fan site. To set the stage, this post is in a thread reacting to yet another blown save by then Cubs closer LaTroy Hawkins….

“ARRGG that series against the Reds at the end of September. Cubs still had a chance after losing 2 out of 3 to the Mets. Cubs win the first game back home and then proceed to lose the next 3 to Cincy (2 of them in the 12th.) I went to every one of those Reds games and after the last one on 9/30 I’m sitting in Guthries with a buddy trying to tell myself not to take it so hard, the Bears are going to be playing every Sunday so I don’t need to slit my wrists. We are sitting by the front door, its open, the place is full but not packed, its kind of quiet, everbody is miserable. I look up and there are 2 big buses stuck in traffic on Addison right in front of the bar. The door to the first bus opens and out comes this big meathead. Hey thats Sean Casey! He runs up to the front door of Guthries, leans in and yells, HEY CUB FANS… SUCK IT! He turns around and runs back onto the bus and the bus door closes.
Yeah, that made me feel a lot better.”

Classic. Gotta love the guy!
