Anyone ready to predict 25-man roster?

Assume everyone's healthy and they keep 13 and 12 pitchers.

To get you started:

Laird

Cabrera

Polonco

Everett

Inge

Guillen

Granderson

Ordonez

Sheffield

Verlander

Bonderman

Galaragga

Jackson

Lyon

Rodney

Zumaya

Seay

Seems like 18 locks.  How about 3 position players and 1 starting pitcher and 3 relievers?

For position players the bench could include: Treanor/Ryan, Santiago/Holliman, Thames, Larish/Raburn, Clete Thomas?; for pitchers: Willis, Robertson, Minor, Dolsi, Bloom, McBride, Rapada...it gets uglier as you scroll down the 40-man.

Well...

Bloom will start the year there, at least, or we have to offer him back to the Pirates.

I’d bet that Treanor will be on the roster. I think he was acquired to be Willis’ catcher.

And I think Thames will be there, same with Willis, Robertson, and Miner.

Past that, I’d like to see Clete Thomas, but I think that Raburn or Santiago is more likely, based on position.

I think Zumaya is less a lock than you think. He may start on the DL.

And Porcello in August. (crosses fingers)

I kinda think Willis or Robertson will end up in the pen unless one of them can be traded during spring training. Over at Tigs Town a good point was made that neither Robertson or Willis will be outright cut unless they’re horrible. And so since only one of them can make the rotation and we’re not carrying three lefties in the pen, I can see Bloom being sent back to the Bucs. I think Larish will make the team instead of Raburn who will either be sent to Toledo or traded. Then I think the final wild card might be Cleven making the 25 man and Thames traded for more bullpen depth.

Could be right on Bloom...

Larish is a weird deal, since he’s crazy-blocked unless he can play himself some third, which he’s (strangely) done more in the majors than in the minors. If he can, sweet, more power to him.

Based on the current FA market, I’m not sure a Thames trade is likely to have legs. I’d love to see him get more AB’s for someone else, though, if only to see if he can crack the elusive 200K barrier.

Also, I forgot in my first post: Timo? They must have signed to that minor league contract to let him try to fill a perceived need, so I have to think that there’s an OF spot up for grabs.
