MLB Playoffs Open Thread
The playoff schedule's a bit strange today, with a noon start in the east, followed by a long break before this evening's two games.
Will today be the last stand for the Boston Red Sox and Minnesota Twins? The St. Louis Cardinals' season ended yesterday in an improbable three-game sweep.
On the schedule tonight, all times ET:
Game 3 Angels-Red Sox @ 12:07 p.m.
Game 3 Yankees-Twins @ 7:07 p.m.
Game 3 Phillies-Rockies @ 10:07 p.m.
One thing I've forgotten to do in these playoff threads is link to the playoff teams' SB Nation sites. (Apologies to Viva El Birdos.) Most of you guys have found them on your own, but just in case you need some road signs:
Angels: Halos Heaven
Red Sox: Over the Monster
Yankees: Pinstripe Alley
Twins: Twinkie Town
Phillies: The Good Phight
Rockies: Purple Row

I totally forgot there was a noon game today!
Boston certainly doesn’t want to leave the postseason just yet.

I'm watching the Lions actually...
they never make me happy. but they make me look forward to work strangely enough.

Well, at least the Lions scored.
And they certainly won’t go 0-fer this year. And they are better than Oakland. So I guess those are positives.

Bye, bye Red Sox.
And totally off-topic – I FINALLY got my best pictures from Sleeping Bear Dunes uploaded. Woohoo!!! Nothing to do with baseball at all, but it took some time to sort through them and decide which ones I liked the best. I’m pretty excited about my family and friends being able to see them at their convenience and without fuss. :)
(No titles, yet, but I’ll get to it. I just started using photobucket this weekend really.)

ANGELS!!!
One step closer to my dream Angels-Rockies World Series. That would be a meet-up of the two coolest, under-hyped teams this year.
I don't have a signature.
Dodgers haven't gotten much attention, either.
Supposedly the Cardinals were supposed to DOMINATE them in the series. Like ESPN knows baseball that well. :)
"While there's life, there's hope." --Cicero
I thoroughly dislike the Dodgers
so their lack of late season media love does not impact me.
They were a huge item earlier in the season though…
I don't have a signature.
I am so hoping that this is the sendoff
For that plastic baggie-infested, carpeted, garage-inspired, demon-infested hellhole of a roofed facsimile of a poor excuse for a “ballfield” that was designed by Satan’s own architectural firm with the aid of the dark side of the force.
RIP Metrodome. :)
"While there's life, there's hope." --Cicero
I'm confused.
You actually like the Metrodome?
by StringTheory on Oct 11, 2009 6:48 PM EDT up reply actions
OK off topic
I just turned on the Denver/Pats game…the Broncos unis today are nearly as ugly as those neon green numbers the Seahawks busted out the other week.
I just flipped over
You mean those yellow things?!? They look like their team name should be “the Fighting Highlighters” – what the heck ARE those things?
"While there's life, there's hope." --Cicero
Effing brutal
they are their throwbacks from the 60’s. Good thing most people had black & white TV’s back then…
I liked the Bronco's retro uniforms.
Much better than the “XTREEM” crap they changed to in the late 90s.
I feel the same way about the "new" Pats unis
I like the style they’re wearing today much, much more
Most every uniform change lately has been about sharp lines, darker colors and more "fierce" looks.
And I’m kind of sick of it.
I really shouldn't talk, since I'm no football expert
…but last week, I was with my parents, and there was a news report about the Lions game. The reporter said something about “Honolulu blue,” which caused my mom to think that Honolulu had a football team.

Evening
Work was…busy. All I wanted was a flu shot and to order Chinese food and I got neither (I never even got a lunch break). Still, it’s nice to see that the much-loathed Red Sox have been knocked off. Herein ends my support of the Angels, unless the Twins somehow pull off a big comeback (I cringe, but hey, it already happened to ‘em). I know this view is not popular at all, but I like the Yankees better than the Angels, hence I will continue rooting for them in the ALCS (I think it’ll be just me and Kurt).
I kinda want the Angels to win it all
what with the whole Adenhart thing and everything. Would be a nice story.
Well
the Yankees have their work cut out for them tonight. They hit .239 combined off of Pavano and the Twins hit .394 combined off of Pettitte. Ouch.
And...
There’s that little issue of them playing in Hell the Metrodome
by SabreRoseTiger on Oct 11, 2009 7:07 PM EDT up reply actions
One could also look at it as
the Yankees are due for a win against him…. we were and we did it. And God knows how PROLIFIC the Yanks are
I'm sure Pavano
is slightly fired up to get to stick it to the NY fans. You know, the same people who renamed the DL the “Pavano”
I think I'm a bit loopy but...
I’m starting to think the Tigers should make an offer to Mauer to help open Target Field.
Never been
But I’m looking forward to seeing for myself in the summer!
"While there's life, there's hope." --Cicero

Can anyone say...excessive?
TBS is giving A-Rod’s stats after a day off (something like 23-for-45). Did we really need to know that?
it's baseball
If someone asked for a pitcher’s stats in the 5th inning or later in a start in which he had already used the rosin bag three times and the weather forecast was partly cloudy with a 30% chance of showers, someone would have them.

Note regarding why the Yankees are impossible to root for, except tonight:
Giuliani had a fit two nights ago about the fact that he didn’t get his usual seats, the ones right next to the dugout, so he could chat with Jeter.

Totally OT: Does anyone think we would look at Papelbon were he on the market?
People have been saying he might become available this offseason. Considering Rodzilla’s stock has risen this season, we could maybe pull something off with him and prospects. What do y’all think?
I’m not saying I really want him, but it is something I’ve been thinking about.
I don't have a signature.
I suppose he would be worth a look, maybe
But I’m sure he will be expensive and it might be a better option to give Lyon a chance instead.

Well
Minnesota took the division from us in ‘06 and they were promptly destroyed by the A’s while we took down the overwhelming World Series favorite Yankees. Who knows what would of happened this year. I think we matched up a lot better to the Yankees than the Twins if you want my opinion. Honestly, they’ll never get deep in the playoffs with starters that pitch to contact and 4-5 ERAs. The Twins are built for the regular season, not the playoffs. They had a chance when they had Santana and even then they did squat. They’re a milquetoast franchise built for sustained mediocrity. At least the Tigers are interesting.
