Around SBN: The Worst Team Ever Projected?

New Poll: Okay, Now How Worried Are You?

You were already worried coming into this week, with a seemingly do-or-die four-game series versus the Minnesota Twins.  But while the Tigers didn't follow through and clinch the AL Central when it was there for the taking, the two teams fought to a draw.

So it comes down to the next three games.  Detroit's magic number is two.  Winning two of three from the White Sox guarantees the division crown.  Otherwise, a Tigers win and a Twins loss gets it done, too.

But it's not a given.  Nothing has been this season.  And so, there's concern.  There's worry.  There's anxiety.  Once again, let's put a number on that.  We'll reset the poll from earlier this week.

On a scale of 1 to 10, how worried are you about the Tigers' final three games?

You can find the poll on the right sidebar below the FanPosts block.  Or you can vote here.  And if you have suggestions for future poll questions, shoot me an e-mail.  Please add your thoughts in the comments.

How did this week's previous poll go?

Star-divide

On a scale of 1 to 10, how worried are you about this week's series vs. the Twins?

20%  1-3 (Concerned, but still confident)

29%  4-6 (Worried, pacing, sweating)

27%  6-8 (I can barely watch)

8%  9-10 (It will all come crashing down)

13%  11 (My head has already exploded)

Thanks to everyone who voted in the poll.

So I was crabby and bitchy with the family last night...

and the first thing my wife asked after I’d settled down was “Has hockey season started already? Did the Wings lose last night or something?”

To which my reply was “NO!….they start tonight…but thank you SO much for bringing THAT into the mix…”

From a Twins Fan

I gotta say congrats for pulling out that series. it’s yours if you don’t totally choke. it’s just like your site header said, SOMEBODY had to win this stupid thing.

Now for your prize, the Yankees. Remembering that makes me a little less disappointed we didn’t beat you…

This is how twisted I've gotten.

I have more confidence in the Tigers beating the Yankees in a five game series than I do in them finally pulling this division out of the cold dead hands of the Twinkies. Let me congradulate you now on the Twins officially putting me on heart attack notice at the DMC every night for the last three weeks. Why do the Twins never ever go away like they are supposed to? I don’t know why this division is even this close…every time we see the Twins they play as hard as the game can be played, never give up, have the MVP of the league, and have one of the best managers in baseball. I freakin hate the Twins!

the only thing that keeps going through my head is....

what my co-worker and John Kruk said “No one has ever come back down 3 with 4 to play, EVER!!” I am like just stop saying that, your going to make me sick. I dont like the pitching match-ups AT ALL this weekend. I absoulutely do not want Verlander pitching on Sunday. I absoulutely do not want Albert Figaro pitching on Saturday if the division is not wraped up….Ok I voted concerned but still confident, and after writing this for last couple of minutes I want to change my vote to IT WILL ALL COME CRASHING DOWN…

as a cucumber

Am I the only one who is still not worried? If we lose tonight and the Twins take the first from the Royals, I may get a bit nervous. Honestly, outside of a win I thought the bean ball war yesterday was a great thing to bring the team together – no one got hurt during the ‘scuffle’ and I think it solidifies the US vs the world mentality. I think we will take care of business this weekend and then spend 3 days hearing about how the Yankees are going to walk all over us and this is the dawn of a new yankees dynasty…blah blah blah.

Interesting...

Didn’t we hear the same thing three years ago?

spend 3 days hearing about how the Yankees are going to walk all over us and this is the dawn of a new yankees dynasty…blah blah blah

let me be clear, I am not scared that we will lose the division this weekend..t

BUT—-I am awfully scared that this will go to a one game playoff next week and that would be almost a guaranteed loss….Verlander unavailble…In the dome….that would be terrible..

After splitting the series this week I am no longer worried.

I hoped it would happen yesterday (didn’t we all?). But I’m sure that we’ll reach that magic number this weekend and, as someone mentioned in yesterday’s thread, it’s easier to celebrate on a weekend if you don’t have to go to work the next day.

Regardless

Of what happens the next three games. It has been a fun season and most if not all of that is thanks to this site. I know I don’t get on much…but I do read it daily, and this cast of characters is the most entertaining group of people on the internets.

That being said, I’m not that worried…check back after the game though…could be a different story.

I don't think so yet

But we’re gonna act like the Sox are going to be upset about not getting Olympics, will Alex Rios hit 5 HR tonight if Rio does?

by Elfuego51 on Oct 2, 2009 12:23 PM EDT up reply actions

that's too bad about the Olympics

Not that I know where I’m gonna be in 7 years, of course, but I was looking forward to having the Olympics just a couple of hours driving away…

If....

the Tigers are up a game going into Sunday..I would sit Verlander and save him for a one game playoff…..or do you pitch him and hope he wraps it up?? would you rather have him face Chicago at home with a chance to wrap it up or twins in the Dome for a playoff?? I say you sit regardless of the situation..if someone else pitches and manages to win then Verlander would be ready for the yankees…I would say almost no chance he pitches Sunday…

Slightly less worried than before the Twins series

Sure the Tigers can win 1 and the Twins lose one, right?

I mean Cy Young for the Royals and Cy Young runner up for the Tigers ought to add up to something useful, right? right?

Color me a 4

When you put it like that with the Cy Young candidates

We should probably feel ridiculous for being worried at all. But stranger things have happened and I know I can’t say I’m just sitting pretty at a 1.

hopefully that little drama yesterday

will be a spark for them to get rolling… They gotta get to Peavy early

I'm not worried because of pitching matchups...

Yes, ours aren’t great, but the DH messed with the Twins rotation just as much as ours. They have to throw Manship out there tonight and then have Blackburn going tomorrow on short rest against the probable AL Cy Young.

If I were a Twins fan, that wouldn’t really generate a lot of confidence for gaining the sweep they will more than likely need just to get a playoff game at the Puketrodome.

Win either tonight or tomorrow and we are celebrating a division title.

I was a 7

I have since scaled back to a 6, but no further. I’d be more confident if it was anyone other than the Twins in the picture.

Abso-freakin-lutely!

Seriously I wouldn’t be as worried with a single other team in baseball. Yankees, Red Sox, Angels…and this was a Wild Card chase. I’m on easy street right now. But the Twins….the freakin Twins!
I was an eleven before…and since my head already exploded I can’t seem to reason myself back down to anything less.

I'm a definite Gloomy Gus...

…but i’m confident all will be well by the end of play Saturday. Why? I don’t know, just a feeling…

Is this legal?
I don't know. It's fun, though...

We give Peavy the Pavano treatment, I hope Jake throws an EXTREMELY PERFECT GAME.
