Game 161 Overflow Thread
So far, this game has a dreadfully familiar feel to it. The Tigers' lineup isn't generating much offense, and taking a chance with Alfredo Figaro starting this game didn't work out very well.
Can the Tigers bats do what they did to Freddy Garcia last Saturday? Or will there be a tie in the AL Central by the end of the night?
White Sox 3, Tigers 0 going to the fourth inning.

If I had a nickel
for every time I heard “Tigers threaten but do not score” I could buy a lot more BYB T shirts!
I smell a tie for the division. :(

Nice job, Armando
But that’s gotta be it, right?

the saddest thing is
That this entire season, the pitching staff has deserved better. The whole time.
The offensive “offensive” players should buy each of the pitchers a house for making them not look quite so horrible all year long.

worst offense EVER

lol
Seriously, this is so comical.
Every other team can get people on with a walk, or a single, or something, and then someone hits another single, and then a double, and then a run is scored.
With the Tigers, it is a single, followed by three straight outs that never leave the infield. This team can’t even get long fly balls until after there are already two outs, so no runs scored on sacrifice flies, either.
We have just proven how predictably bad they are.

Tigers luck has run out.

We had a 13+ inningg scoreless streak going in Chicago too.
I don’t want the 0-5 parity again, though.
Tigers getting beat like Ted Williams' head.
I love that line.

why can't we ever hit convenient homers?

As I predicted...
Armando has run out of steam.
Not bad while he was in there, though.
http://tigersamateuranalysis.blogspot.com
Whatever.
When they epicfail this season, the sun is still going to rise in the east and set in the west. And I’ll still be a Tiger fan in ’10. So whatever.
maybe next year we will have an actual offense
That will be so exciting!
And I think I’d better change my signature.
"For myself I am an optimist - it does not seem to be much use being anything else." -- Winston S. Churchill
I refuse to believe there is any option other than winning the division.
That’s just what’s going to happen. They don’t have a choice.
And on top of all this
My ISP is wimping out on me again tonight. Time for a phone call on Monday to cancel service.
So...shouldn't Garcia start hitting our guys?
At least we’d get some baserunners.
http://tigersamateuranalysis.blogspot.com
I think blaming the hitting coach is overrated
this is just a team that is aging. Guys in their mid-30’s screwed the offense with either injuries of ineffectiveness for much of the year: Polanco, Guillen, Ordonez…
so how epic was the um/msu game today?
by okie for michigan on Oct 3, 2009 8:47 PM EDT reply actions
poor Laird is having no chance
Pitchers aren’t helping him at all.
Stop kidding yourself, fool. The glass is half empty.
I'm having a hard time remembering the last run this team scored.
Stop kidding yourself, fool. The glass is half empty.
So why can't we run wild when we're on?
Pierzynski can’t throw worth crap.

deadline trade recap
Twins: Cabrera (on fire since all star break), Pavano (Tiger killer), Rauch (win today)
White Sox: Peavy (2-0 vs. Tigers), Rios (great the last two weeks, 3-3 today)
Tigers: Wash (injured and was awful for Tigers), Huff (just one big hit in tons and tons of ABs)
they tend to lose when she goes at the last minute
but from what I recall, if she buys tix in advance, they win.
no need to put anyone on base
It would be like poking a toothless bear in the eye. Just plain mean.
So, like my new signature? Appropriate, I thought. :)
Stop kidding yourself, fool. The glass is half empty.
okay, I don't know anything about prospects and minor leaguers and stuff
But does the offense next year have the possibility of being closer to matching the pitching? We have that part down, now the Tigers just need some support for them.
Stop kidding yourself, fool. The glass is half empty.
We have nothing coming up next year.
Maybe Scott Sizemore to replace Polanco, but the best he’ll do is hit for average with occasional power.
And strike out a lot

dont rub in today by showing spartan fans
Maybe now you'll never slime a guy with a positron collider!
If I were a sports journalist
I would look into recent cash deposits from Chicago banks into Tiger player accounts
I still believe they can pull this off
but even if they don’t, please remember that the Tigers were picked by most to be a bottom feeder in the worst division in baseball. so it has been a great year to watch them
I'd like to think
People will eventually calm down and join you in that perspective.
But I just don’t know…

They've met my expectations. They're on their own now.
I said they could win between 85 and 90 games and that they could contend. I didn’t promise anything more.

very true
One of my brothers was on vacation with friends in Vegas before the season started, and the line on the Tigers was 81 wins. He was going to bet they would get less than that because he figured it would be an easy win.
The perspective will come for most people in time, I think – just right now it really hurts, because to get so close and see the offense let down the pitching time after time after time after time, and looking around and seeing the teams that are capable of scoring a lot of runs …
It would just have been nice a FEW WEEKS in the season to have a little bit of that when it mattered. Just a little bit of offense.
Stop kidding yourself, fool. The glass is half empty.
So...
…if things don’t work out in a couple of days, heaven forbid, do the Tigers make some moves and jump on Kevin Towers?
Doin' work since... ever.

15 straight scoreless innings for the Tigers
In a bad way, that is actually quite remarkable.

So...what's Miguel's excuse?
He came into the game 5-for-8 against Garcia with two home runs.

trying to hard...
….the tigers feel the pressure. flat out.
they are not having fun
What a joke.
This team has no business in the playoffs. I guess I’d rather not have to watch us be swept by the Yankees anyways. Good luck, Twins.
But if the Twins make it in, I want the Yankees to beat them

not really epic
The Twins were only seven back and I was surprised they were ever that far back. They are a decent team.
Stop kidding yourself, fool. The glass is half empty.
but never a solid lead
There was a lot of smoke and mirrors and squeaking by on excellent pitching. They rarely looked like a team that was confident and comfortable in being in front.
Stop kidding yourself, fool. The glass is half empty.
they have had many chances to finish the race but could never pull the trigger
if there were ANY consistent hitting the month of September would have been anti-climatic

Yeah
Gardy doesn’t want to leave it up to Duensing. I mean, the kid’s pitched out of his mind lately, but you gotta go with the veteran. Like in the first Major League movie!
Hopefully Redmond doesn’t have to leg out a bunt to win it.
Double hopefully we don’t lose Carlos Gomez and replace him with Omar Epps next season

Since SI said the Tigs should win bc everything in Detroit is so bad...
If the Tigs lose, does Detroit automatically get a fluorishing new industry, a great mayor, and sunny weather?
Pathetic....nothing more, nothing less
No patience, no ability, no clue. Garcia has not thrown his off speed stuff for strikes all night…his fastball has not broken 89 mph. Any worthy team would be lighting him up like a Christmas tree. Cabby couldn’t hit a beach ball right now, Polanco looks disinterested, and the rest seem to be waiting around for Verlander Sunday. Tigers don’t deserve a play-off spot.
As Robert Zimmerman once sang,
swallow your pride, you will not die…..it’s not poison!
Tombstone Blues……..
"Without deviation from the norm, 'progress' is not possible."
82 pitches for Garcia in the 7th inning

not even making it hard on the pitchers
I’ll bet the Tigers guys are wondering why they can’t face an offense like that. Verlander would have about 14 complete games.

Does anybody like our chances if we lose tonight? Never been a pessimist but it’s hard to stay positive here.

i don't like our chances
because the twins will not lose the at the metrodome and they wont have to play anywhere else
From another pessimist...
I still like your chances…but I’m a Twins fan, and we Minnesotans are a gloomy bunch.

I don’t follow football at all, really – but I’m kind of hoping that Green Bay wins just because Farve gets so much smooching from the media, and Aaron Rodgers (sp?) dealt with so much drama and just waited until his turn to play. Most football players seem like such whining babies.

Minnesotans have been scarred too many times
At least Vikings fans have. Last year’s 1 game playoff loss has to be equally as worse in terms of the distress scale.

JV has an excellent chance tomorrow, but are the Twins likely to lose to KC?
then it goes to a tiebreaker in the Dome without JV to pitch
