A few "Thank You's" as the season ends.

As disappointingly as this season came to an end, I can't say that it wasn't fun from start to finish. This team outperformed most expectations, certainly mine. So I suppose some thanks are in order.

Thanks to the All-Star pitchers, JV and Edwin. It was a joy and privilege to watch you do your thing this season. Hopefully, a Cy Young is in order for your efforts, Justin. You deserve it.

Kid Rick, thanks for your efforts. It was a real treat watching you mature from the start of the season to a pitcher who we turned to in the biggest game of the season (in which you did quite well, I might add).

Maggs. Good God, you hit .300. Who would have thought that two months ago. Way to persevere. Thank you for your incredible contributions when this team needed you most. The home run you hit yesterday was the most exciting baseball moment for me, since, well, the last giant playoff HR you hit. Thanks again.

The defense. G$. God forbid anybody try to take a base off of you. Raburn... Same goes for you. Inge. As always, there is nothing better to watch in baseball than watching you field the 3rd base position. A Gold Glove are in order. Tremendously gutsy performance the second half of the season. Grandy. Perhaps not the finest season with the stick, but 30 homers and excellent defense (that last Twins series notwithstanding) deserves some praise. Opie/Razor Ramon. What an improvement over the defensive sieve named Edgar Renteria

And most importantly, thank you to one Ian Casselberry. I am not eloquent enough to properly thank you for all the work that you have put into this site and establishing a community here. This is a wonderful place to partake in all things Detroit Tigers. Your tremendous work does not go unnoticed, nor unappreciated. Thank you so much for maintaining this site so that fans like myself have a place to follow the team, discuss baseball and (occasionally) vent their frustrations :)

So again, I say thank you, Ian. This would all be much less enjoyable without you.

I agree with everything above

but I can’t help but notice you left out Miggy … I know the wounds of the past weekend are still fresh so don’t take this as a criticism. I understand leaving him out. I also saw that DD came out with a statement today refering to how he was dissappointed with Miggy and that he expects to see change in him going forward.
So let me get to my Miggy thank you and a few others I had. Thank you Miggy for showing up ready to go this year. 2008 started out rough but as the season progressed you showed your star power. This year you proved in my mind that you are a top ten player in the AL. Along with the 100+ RBI’s, 30+ hrs and .320+ avg you showed that you can be a reliable defensive first baseman. When you showed up in Detroit I thought you would likely be a full-time DH by the age of 28, now I believe we have a superstar first baseman that we can rely for offense and defense.
Thank you DD and Leyland … another one that may seem hard right now but lets not forget that these men had to swallow their pride and made major shifts in philosophy regarding how this team was constructed. In 2008 and spent big and brought in a bunch of former all-stars while paying no attention to defense and intangibles. This year we focused on defense and team harmony and I believe we got a much better product to watch. I also know that some people have criticized Leyland’s juggling line-up approach but in truth we didn’t have very many players this year playing well enough and consistently enough to justify leaving them in key spots and counting on them to pull out of their slumps. In the past Leyland would have just tried riding it out and I prefer the way he approached the line-ups this year.
Thank you Mike Illitch. After 2008 all I heard was how the Tigers would need to slash salary. Well, not only did that not happen, but you showed a willingness to win that makes me believe our franchise is the best for a fan. Sure, adding guys like Washburn and Huff didn’t work out and we have all off-season to debate the pros and mostly cons of paying Maggs 18 million but the fact that he let these things happen with an eye on winning shows that he is focused on winning for the fans and I appreciate that.
Thank you Grandy, not just for the bounty of beautiful catches you provided but also for being my facebook friend :) Seriously, this guy is another team player who has mastered playing centerfield in a ball park where that is almost impossible. 30 hrs and solid baserunning also don’t hurt.
Thank you Inge. After Inge hit the grand slam to beat Tampa (I think that was right) someone created a fanpost about Inge and his visit to a children’s hospital (anyone with a link please feel free to add it). You reminded is the fun part of life and there are other things that are more important.
Thank you to all the calls ups. From Raburn, Clete, Wilkin, Frenchie, Don Kelly and the rest, it seemed like every one we called up contributed in some way to give us a win here and a win there. Heading into this year all I heard was how the Tigers minor league system was void of any impact players. I leave the 2009 season feeling like there is hope and a lot of promise in the Tigers future.
Thank you to everyone on here. If someone would ask me what is the good side of blogging I would show them this website.

I can't believe I ate the whole thing!
