MLB Playoffs Open Thread
Okay, the playoff open threads have been going well, so we're still doing them. (That is, if we can pull Baroque away from being the belle of the TrueBlueLA GameThreads now.)
To me, tonight's Twins-Yankees game is the tough one to watch. Had the Tigers made the playoffs, this would've been Justin Verlander's turn. And I really thought he might give Detroit a chance against the Yankees. That's what disappoints me almost as much as the Tigers not getting into the playoffs at all.
On the schedule tonight, all times EST. The National League is not in play:
Game 2 Twins-Yankees @ 6:07 p.m.

Ther Verlander sentiment is shared.
He had the potential to win two games by himself. wahh.
Anyway. I have no idea who that woman is in the picture, and I don’t care to know.
Verlander thing is... OK
I was more depressed he wouldn’t pitch game three (which I had tickets for).

That would be depressing.
Then again, I’m not sure anything could top hearing “KEN-NY! KEN-NY! KEN-NY!” in the ‘06 ALDS, so my expectation of JV in that role this year may be curbed to the point where I’m not quite depressed.

Phil Cuzzi - LF Ump (from Wikipedia)
Philip Cuzzi (born August 29, 1955 in Newark, New Jersey) is an umpire who initially worked in the National League from 1991 to 1993 before returning to the NL in 1999; since 2000 he has worked throughout both major leagues. Cuzzi’s fellow crew members are currently Ed Montague (crew chief), Jerry Layne, and Jim Wolf.
Cuzzi has been at the center of several recent controversies. In the eighth inning of Game 4 of the 2005 National League Championship Series between the Houston Astros and St. Louis Cardinals, Cuzzi, working as the home plate umpire, ejected Cardinals star outfielder Jim Edmonds for allegedly arguing balls and strikes. With Edmonds batting and the count 3-1, Astros pitcher Dan Wheeler threw a fastball that Edmonds thought was ball four. As he started to walk down to first base, Edmonds was shocked to find that Cuzzi had called the pitch strike two. Edmonds turned around to ask where the pitch was, and was promptly tossed from the game. Pinch hitter John Rodriguez flied out to center field to end the inning. The Cardinals went on to lose the game and eventually lost the series four games to two. Earlier in the game, Cuzzi had ejected Cardinals manager Tony La Russa for disputing balls and strikes from the dugout 1. This has been the only League Championship Series which Cuzzi has been chosen to umpire; he previously officiated in the 2003 and 2004 National League Division Series.
Cuzzi also has a controversial history with the Toronto Blue Jays. In 2003, with Blue Jays ace Roy Halladay pitching in his second to last game of the season and going for his team-record 22nd win, Cuzzi ejected the star pitcher for hitting Tampa Bay Devil Rays outfielder Rocco Baldelli with a pitch. Few people, not even Baldelli himself, believed the beaning was intentional. Furthermore, MLB rules dictate that when warnings have been issued (as Cuzzi had done prior to the start of the game), the manager of the ejected pitcher’s team must also be thrown out, something Cuzzi failed to do. The Jays went on to lose what was at that point a 1-0 game, and Halladay, who had four straight complete-game victories coming into the contest, had to wait until his last outing of the season to break the team wins record 2.
A year earlier, Cuzzi was severely criticized by then-Blue Jays slugger Carlos Delgado, after Delgado was called out on strikes with the June 14 game against the Chicago Cubs on the line. Delgado, who thought the pitch was nearly a foot outside, later referred to Cuzzi as “amateurish” and said it was the “worst call I’ve seen in a long, long time.”[citation needed]
In 2008, Cuzzi will be on Ed Montague’s crew, along with Jerry Layne and Jim Wolf.
Cuzzi was once again mired in controversy when White Sox manager Ozzie Guillén claimed Cuzzi had a vendetta against him and that “He don’t like me, I don’t like him.”3 Guillen’s comments were in regard to Cuzzi ejecting him after arguing balls and strikes, the second time in as many years Cuzzi has ejected Guillen for said offense.
Phil Cuzzi was the home plate umpire for the first organized game at the New Yankee Stadium. The New York Yankees defeated the Chicago Cubs 4-7.4 It was not official and was an exhibition game. In the regular season, he was home plate umpire for the second home game at the New Yankee Stadium, a 6-5 Yankees victory ending in a controversial at bat for Mark DeRosa including two contested calls by Cuzzi.

even when a call doesnt go for the twins, they still manage to fight through it and now have 2 on, no out

You know...we so totally would've won this game
Verlander would’ve been spectacular. Rodney would’ve still allowed that leadoff single to Mark Teixiera, but then he would’ve gotten A-Rod to GIDP, then walked Matsui, but would finish off Nick Swisher with a called third strike.
that verlander point is SO true
like, the way he pitched this year against the Yanks and the way he pitched in general, if I were the Tigers I’m confident we win 2 games in the series.
’Tis a shame

And here’s a close-up (at least, as best as I could get…my camera was really uncooperative) of that “stitch” design I was talking about:

By the way, for that second shot, I had the shirt on a crate that had a newspaper on the top of it, and if you can read what that newspaper says, you’ll realize just how desperately I need to clean my room.

It actually started when I closed my CD burning software, then I discovered my computer was running a spyware scan, but it still didn’t go away. I finally closed Firefox and re-opened it, and now my computer is back to normal speed.

actually I’m looking at ahtrap’s facebook profile on facebook. He found me.
My Music: Some Sorta Giant
I don't think anyone around here has found me yet
You guys probably wouldn’t want to find me, though. I’m one of those annoying people who play Farmville.

don't worry about that...
I’m very non picky with facebook friends. As long as I don’t think you have evil plans against me I don’t care. Ahtrap found me probably because I put a link to a facebook pic of mine up top. Or my email in my profile makes my name easily identifiable. I should practice better internet safety really. But than again, I’m building a flamethrower. I don’t exactly care about safe.
My Music: Some Sorta Giant
I'm not even on facebook
But it seems that I am easy enough to stalk by my screen name. :)

and most of my friends do farmville or farmtown or mafia wars...
or some other random game.

Firefox question
Every time I try to type a subject that begins with a “C,” Firefox opens a drop-down menu that has something I typed earlier on it. How do I make that go away?
I've never had that happen.
all I can suggest off the top of my head is go Tools>Options>Privacy>Custom History Settings(drop down menu)>and than uncheck “remember search and form history.”
That’s all I can think of off the top of my head.
My Music: Some Sorta Giant
That's form completion, or saved forms
Can’t remember what it was called in Firefox. I’m not quite sure where the option is in Tools —> Preferences but it’s there

You know, I don't have any buddies who are Twins fans
Back when my blog was at its old site, I used to have a reader who was both a Brewers and a Twins fan (mostly Brewers; the Twins were her favorite AL team). I also had a White Sox/Royals fan and a Padres fan. I think I had more fans of other teams reading my site than I did Tigers fans. Anyways, that is the only Twins fan I’ve ever been acquainted with (other than the ones who visit here from Twinkie Town, that is).

I always get annoyed when people in the suburbs say they’re from detroit because when I ask ’what part?" and they say “rochester” they have a totally different experience than the one I had as a kid in, you know, Detroit. Before moving to avoid the whole shooty/drughouses two blocks away thing.

I'm in Toledo
There’s about an even mix of Tigers and Indians fans here (maybe leaning a bit towards the Tigers, unless you’re at UT, then there’s seemingly more Indians fans). I was at Walmart a couple weeks ago looking at their Tigers shirts and I came across a Padres T-shirt. It just seemed so random.
