White Sox Acquire Juan Pierre
Those of you who worried over his on-base percentage or other stats needn't worry any longer. The White Sox are sending over two minor-league pitchers. One wonders what they are going to do with an outfield that (at this point) consists of Quentin, Pierre, and Rios.

Well, I guess we'll know for sure how he'd perform in the AL Central.
Unless they sign someone else, I imagine it will be Pierre in left, Rios in center, and Quentin in right.
Plus
They also have the corpse that used to be Mark Kotsay and Andruw Jones. Plus, knowing Ozzie and KW, Teahen will probably be used in RF at times throughout the year…….this is either the precursor of another trade or the makings of a messy situation on the south side
"the corpse that used to be Mark Kotsay"
I love it – that just never gets old.

Also.
That should mean one less team is interested in Scotty Pods. It’s down to us, Cubs, Giants, and Royals.

Pierre will cost the White Sox $3 million in ‘10 and $5 milllion in ’11, with the Dodgers picking up $10.5 million of the last $18.5 m.

Oh, Please . . .
. . . let all these speedy, low obp guys sign and lead off somewhere else. Like the year we got Guillen, let the market force us to do the right thing. Hell, I’d rather have Jack Cust leading off than Juan Pierre . . .
I'd love Jack Cust leading off
Solo shots or walks… my kind of player.

Well, but notice . . .
. . . that Cust had a better obp last year than Pierre, and last year was Pierre’s best obp year in his career.
Praise Avila
I’m perfectly fine, even if Pierre has a decent season, with the White Sox cornering the market on aging outfielders who struggle to get on base.
I would be happy with this
If the ChiSox had picked up more of the check… while I didn’t really want the Tigers to get him, because we need to play AJAX and Clete, I think Pierre will definitely be an improvement for the Black Sox. They now have:
-a very deep starting rotation with the addition of Peavy
- a very solid bullpen with Putz, Thornton and Jenks
- a top notch infield with the addition of Teahan and Beckham moving to 2nd
- and now a full outfield with power (Quentin) and speed (Pierre, Rios)
They are really starting to look like a winner. Obama must be pleased as punch.

And a budget that's immense
Wonder if they’ll get a bailout if they can’t meet payroll…

Well
Chicago’s really trying to make a push this year. All this AL East/West talk has let Chicago work under the radar.
Hopefully, they’ll crash and burn as per usual, but in this division…
i can see it now
The White Sox will lead the league in sac bunts, and runners left on base

The one thing you can count on . . .
. . . with Pierre and maybe Rios at the top of their order, they will not have a lot of baserunners to elave on.
One down
Now we just need somebody to pluck Podsednik so we don’t have to hear talk of Tiger interest going that way.
I'm more worried
About the WS pitching staff. It’s kinda scary good with a full year of Peavy to deal with.
The AL Central is going to really look like a redheaded stepchild, though. With the M’s (+Lee/Figgins), Angels (they’re the Angels) and the improving Rangers and the Beasts of the East, it’s quite obvious this division doesn’t stack up.
And all the national media writers will complain about how much our division sucks and that it should be blown out of existence
But I think we can still square with the White Sox. We’ve got some pretty good pitching of our own. Besides, when was the last time the favorite in our division actually won it?

Thankfully, you still have to play the games
Because on paper, I don’t think there’s any question the ChiSox are better right now. But maybe we get some surprise production from the group of Bondo/Robertson/Zumaya/Guillen, and maybe they run into trouble with their group of Putz/Peavy/Jenks/Quentin.
I think we are in the unfortunate position of needing to make a move, but not having any great fits available on the free agent market. Even though I don’t like overpaying for closers, I wouldn’t mind if we went out and spent money on one, just because there doesn’t seem to be any other useful way to spend at this time…

If there is no useful way to spend
then don’t spend on anything. It’s better to sit back and do nothing and have more money than to spend money simply for the sake of doing something….
I don't know
It’s not my money, so if it comes down to making one marginal upgrade in the bullpen versus more profit for Mr. Illitch, I say sell some more pizzas and spend the money! :)
I do take back what I said before. There is ONE non-closer still available that I would love to see us add: Nick Johnson. Not flashy, but he could be a good lefty DH option. If we are serious about playing Guillen as our everyday LF, than we could look at a DH like Johnson. A high OBP like his could be nice as a #2… maybe even an unconventional leadoff man.
A lifelong Tigers fan
Who would you suggest?
There just aren’t many afforable, high onbase percentage, lefty leadoff hitters available.
Kelly Johnson, if he can still play OF and if we can get him on the cheap, is an intriguing proposition, though…

I'd take . . .
. . . the best deal I could make with a left-handed hitter, regardless of whether he can lead off.
So true
It seems like every year, the team picked to finish 3-4 ends up winning the thing. So hey! We’re in good shape then! We aren’t the Royals or the Indians, and we won’t be picked like the Twins or Sox to win. We’re bound to win!
So, uh...that makes the Indians' year?
Trying to prognosticate the AL Central leaves a lot of people confuzzled.

When talking about aging outfielders
we need to look into our corner outfielders….Though I love Maggs, lets face it he’s only about average in the OF and Carlos, pfft, he looks as if he’s not even trying to run down a ball out there.
Christmas a little early.
Kenny kept us from acquiring a bad contract OF. Thank you White Sox, for your continued collecting of such creatures.
