The Seattle Mariners' wonderful offseason continues. And the Milton Bradley dream has died for the BYB'ers who hoped he'd find his way into a Tigers uniform next season. According to various reports, this trade will be announced later today.

Wow, Ian you are on top of things

MLB Trade Rumors has yet to find out about this (as of 12:40).

I was not one of the ones in favor of Bradley, mostly cuz we’d be stuck with him for two years and not one. It would be nice to have a left-handed on-base machine, but surely there’s someone out there more pleasant than Milton Bradley.

I'd consider that a bullet dodged

I was ok with the idea of having him in Detroit, but I’m also quite okay without him.

Oh, man...

Unless the Mariners are paying a huge portion of Silva’s contract, this is a huge win for them.

Cubs getting $9 million from Seattle, so Mariners wind up paying them $6 million plus Silva when salaries offset.

Yeah

Silva is a non-factor. If he contributes anything to the Cubs this year, I would be shocked… would have thought they could have gotten more for Bradley. Even Dontrelle Willis would have been better.

Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. All it took was CARLOS-FRICKIN’-SILVA?!

Could we not have dealt Bondo? What in the……..

Carlos Silva?

This shows just how badly the Cubs wanted to get rid of Milton. Carlos Silva? Christ…

It also shows how bad they wanted to save money in the deal.

We heard for weeks about Burrell for Bradley which would have been a better return for the Cubs but they would have had to pay part of Bradley’s salary. This deal worked for the Cubs because they are getting 6 millions back from the M’s. I don’t see the Tigers sending Bondo and 6 million to the Cubs.

I can't believe I ate the whole thing!

That money is to cover the difference in salaries.

The Cubs ended up with a worse contract and the money is to balance out the contracts. They end up with the bad end of the deal and get a little bit of lotion to soothe the burn of having Carlos “Useless” Silva on their roster.

Wow

Well…Chicago really wanted him gone.

At this point, all I can hope is that Dombrowski at least kicked the tires on Bradley. Probably had Bradley for Brent Dlugach on the table and decided it “wasn’t enough.”

The worst part of this...

is that the Tigers don’t get to face Silva when they play the Mariners.

by russkiejedi on Dec 18, 2009 1:04 PM EST reply actions

Unreal.

From the Cubs’ perspective, this is horrendous. I guess we never offered anything for him, because if we did, it would have been better than Silva.

It's just occured to me...

What happened to Endy Chavez? He was playing left field for the M’s and if I recall correctly, he was doing a good job. I know he injured himself and had to have surgery, but what happened after that?

by SabreRoseTiger on Dec 18, 2009 3:42 PM EST reply actions

The Mariners need pop in their lineup

Endy doesn’t have any. They’ve got Guittierez and Ichiro in their outfield, so they want a little more power out of their other corner outfield.

Oh, and they have a mascot (Ken Griffey Jr.) at DH, so they can’t look to the DH for power (or, really any production).

Yuniesky Betancourt:

Singlehandedly crippling teams’ chances of success for years now. Dayton Moore should be applauded for subtracting value to his team by adding the mirage of a legitimate player in the middle of the Royals infield!

Good deal for the M's

Just one more move that makes me really love Jack Z and Don Wakamatsu even more. This is the kind of thinking that should happen more with DD……now I’m feeling down…..

Thank God

Maybe now people will stop talking about him, at least until he’s on the trading block in July…

Better Bradley

a problem of the M’s than a problem of Detroit’s. I am relieved he’s not coming here.

by Detroitchik on Dec 18, 2009 6:57 PM EST reply actions

I would have been more pissed about acquiring Bradley

than trading Granderson…

Bradley is a joke of a ballplayer. So much wasted talent… more effort goes into blaming others for his shortcomings than his conditioning and strength training which leads to him being as injury plagued as he is.

it’s like the man has perforated muscle fibers… if it’s not his hamstrings, it’s his back.. if it’s not his back it’s his knee that he blew out because of arguing with an umpire

by Boney on Dec 20, 2009 11:10 AM EST reply actions

I think blaming strength and conditioning is the wrong way to go. Some people’s genetics don’t allow them to play a professional sport without breaking down at some point.

I'd take Bradley.

He gets on base, can actually hit major league pitching and would have addressed some needs. Chemistry and club house cancer doesn’t score runs or get on base.
