Detroit's Freddy Dolsi Era is Officially Over
Last week, reliever Freddy Dolsi was designated for assignment to trim excess from the Detroit Tigers' 40-man roster. And now, Dolsi's career with the Tigers is officially finished, after he was claimed on waivers by the Chicago White Sox.
Dolsi posted a 1.69 ERA in 10.2 innings with the Tigers this year, pitching in nine games. (Compare that to 2008, when he appeared in 42 games.) His last appearance for Detroit may have sealed his fate, as he gave up three hits and three walks in just 1.1 innings versus the Red Sox.
Any chance Dolsi comes back to haunt the Tigers, now that he'll be with a division rival?

I've kinda always liked Dolsi
But if someone wants to give me his numbers letting me know why I should not…feel free to reply.

Looked at it:
Didn’t strike out a lot of guys. Didn’t have a superlative walk rate to make up for that. WHIP in the 1.6 range. The only weird, unexpected positive quality I came by was a pretty good GB rate, which was a bit better than 2 GB/FB.
For comparison, Zach Miner, throwing Leyland’s favorite sinker, only has a 1.42 ratio (still good), and Porcello and his 2-seamer are still not quite as good, at 1.89, for 6th in MLB among eligibles.
To be fair, Dolsi’s number, over 2 seasons, is still only about 100 IP, but its this GB rate that probably caused the big drop in ERA from 2008 to 2009, when our infield defense improved.
I don't want to hear any weak sh*t from Jason Grilli.

Wow, with Grilli in Cleveland, Farnsworth in KC, and now Dolsi in Chicago...
I sure do hope our guys really take it to the bullpens of our division rivals.

How about Gary Glover?
His time in Detroit was brief, but sucky.

farnsworth
i wouldn’t call farnsworth an ex tiger. he jumped ship after a half year, then when he came back, he seemed like he WANTED to pitch poorly so there wouldn’t even be a CHANCE the tigers would want him back. i just dont think he was a detroit kind of ball player. but yeah, freddie will have some good outings against us, no doubt, but right now the role he will play will not be that significant.
Long shot
With the bullpen the Sox are likely to have, I’d be stunned if Dolsi was able to crack their roster.
I won't...
… and I’m a Sox fan.

"Any chance Dolsi comes back to haunt the Tigers"
That’s a big 10-4, good buddy. He will win one game single handed, if not more. He may even end up picking up a bat and channel his inner Luke Scott. Mark it.
Seriously though, I always like Dolsi. He never really made himself indispensable though….

yea i liked dolsi
another pitching bullpen prospect down the drain
I always liked Freddy... Sad to see him go.
back in 2008 I saw the Indians take on the Tigers at Comerica. Dolsi came in in the 8th inning with the bases loaded and struck out the side, keeping the Tigers lead intact. Couldn’t help but love him from that moment forward.
yes
yes for sure. Watch him be a great relief pitcher with a 3.00 era and 50 k in 60 innings.
