I'm sick of hearing about trading Bonderman

Why does everyone want to dump Boderman so quick, he's had one major injury in his career and it's taking some time for him to come back strong.   Most if not all pitchers go through some injury problems in there career.   Is it such a stretch that Bonderman gets his fast ball back to 93 or 94mph again? no.   Bonderman could easily come back strong and win 12-14 games for us.   If you want to be pissed about bad contracts talk about Willis or Nate or even Carlos, Bonderman is still young and deserves other shot from the tigers.

Apparently you don't know how trades work...

Because nobody wants to pay good money for a questionable Nate Robertson or an iffy Carlos Guillen. People are looking to upgrade, not downgrade. If that means parting with players you like, then that’s the price you pay.

It’s baseball. I know people get attached to their players and they love to see them play their entire careers for one team, but this game is about one thing and one thing only: winning. Nobody brags about the Tigers winning the pennant in 2006, they hang their head when they remember the beating inflicted on us by the Cardinals.

Now I have nothing against Bondo, in fact I like his fierceness, nor am I saying we should trade him, but if he’s worth more to us as another (or more) players than he is in our rotation or the bullpen, then that’s how it is.

What Tiger fans do you hang out with?

All the ones I know talk about the2006 ALCS like the Good ’Ol Days.

And, also, it’s not like Bondo has much intrinsic trade value right now either.

2006 ALCS was nice

However, I don’t refer to them as the Good ’Ol Days by any stretch.

Come on,

“deserves other shot” you implying that Bonderman should actually be healthy and pitch a season for a “bargain” salary? Because the shot the Detroit Tigers gave him included twelve million for a year he didn’t even really pitch. I admire the HELL out of Jeremy Bonderman for coming back, and I hope he does come back HUGE! But the fact is that the Tigers needed him the most the last two years, when he wasn’t there. They built the club without the club depending on him. At the most, I hope Jeremy is a number four that comes up with the huge big game stopper/win. But I think that is what his value is limited to. If we could/can trade his contract to someone willing to give us a similar over-paid, lead-off or left handed run producer so be it. But they would have to be someone proven in the AL with a comeback in the cards. Everyone needs a SP these days, right?

The unlikely side of the story is that Bondo becomes the Tigers long awaited fireman who finishes the season with 40 saves and a hunred k’s. In which case I will win every fantasy league I pay for this year because I drafted him in the last round. :)

hundred,

sorry, i had the replace letter instead of the insert letter when I spellchecked/fixed hudred into hunred…….

If the tigers could trade Bondo for a decent lead off hitter or a left handed run producer???

Yea I get your point but all were gonna get in return is gettin rid of his contract and get in return amount of prospects that have the value of a used condom. " Sorry for that term but I heard it over the weekend and had to use it somewhere" I’d rather take a chance for 2010 for Bondo.

Someone said to trade Bondo?

Seriously, this is the first I’ve heard this.

I think it's more because Bondo gets lumped in with the "toxic" contracts of D-Train, Robertson, Guillen, etc.

And of those toxic contracts, Bonderman is viewed as having the biggest upside (still fairly young, has had success, etc). However, though I don’t care much for him from a preferential standpoint, when he’s healthy, I believe he’s certainly capable of getting 13 or 14 wins, and if that’s the case, I think he’s more valuable as a #4 starter than as trade bait (unless we REALLY can pull off a steal).

+1

Bondo is much less toxic than Robertson/Willis.

You just never know!

When I think of Bonderman, I always think of that game he pitched against the Yankees in the ‘06 playoffs. That game told me he has promise, and can be a big-gamer. Let’s give him a chance in 2010 to see if that Jeremy Bonderman is still there. You just never know!

Speaking about the ’06 team, who would have thought Chris Shelton would have carried the Tigers the first three weeks. His MLB bio says

“established American League records by belting seven home runs in his team’s first nine games of the season, eight home runs in his team’s first 12 games of the season and nine home runs in his team’s first 13 games of the season…Named American League Player of the Week for April 2-9 after batting .583 (14×24)”

Granted, Shelton didn’t keep it up, but he had to have been a big reason for the fast start in 06. You just never know!

And what about Kenny Rogers? He was the perfect combination of poise, guts, and instructor that the young guys like Verlander and Zumaya needed all season. You just never know!

The 2010 team. You just never know. Will Galarraga rebound to anything close to his ’08 season? Remember this time last year Tiger fans thought he could maybe win 20 in ’09. I honestly think that the WBC had an adverse effect on the Tigers last spring. Galarraga gets hurt along with Guillen and then Ordonez has all those personal issues, and Granderson never does get in sync. Even with all of that, Detroit gets off to a better start than the rest of the division, thanks to Porcello, and Jackson shining bright and the defense, (which DD bought) doing a stellar job backing the pitchers. So again, You just never know!

Nice point about Galarraga. What is that factor called when you up a pitcher’s innings pitched by something like 150 he is much more likely to get injured the following year….Hopefully that is true for Galarraga and he comes back to form this year, and it is NOT true for Porcello, Sherzer, or Perry.

by Fien SHOULD CLOSE on Dec 28, 2009 11:11 AM EST up reply actions

when did that happen?

From 07 to 08, his innings jump was 17 2/3. His innings were obviously higher stress, as he spent most of 2007 in Double-A. But there was definitely no 150 inning jump.

(responding to watson’s post) Any Tigers fan who thought Galarraga would win 20 was kidding themself. Nothing in his 08 season indicated Galarraga had that capability. … Ordonez’s “personal issues” were his wife having surgery for cancer, I fail to see how that is tied to the WBC.

All your favorite Tigers blog are belong to me.

Ordonez Issue

Ordonez did have the whole Hugo Chavez BBQ incident that led to him being booed by his own countrymen at every at-bat. That would certainly mess with my head

by rif23 on Dec 28, 2009 2:29 PM EST up reply actions

There were some soundbites of Galarraga saying he wanted to win 20 games

Perhaps that’s what watson was referring to. Even I don’t think he’s capable of 20 wins unless he gets tremendous run support (and I’m one of the few around here who’s still nice to him). But as long as he’s healthy (keyword “healthy”), I think he’s capable of winning 13 or 14 games. He’s certainly got the smarts to do so.

by SabreRoseTiger on Dec 28, 2009 3:25 PM EST up reply actions

I could see 12

He’s a fourth starter at best.
