A nice analysis of why the Tigers could make trades in the coming week, but are not compelled to.

Hint: Revenues are still pretty good in Detroit.

So

I really don’t understand why everyone is saying that they need to trim payroll. I mean I understand it’s high for the return from some of the players with these “bad” contracts, but 33mm it a pretty decent amount of money for 6 mos of air time. Seems like we could acquire a bat or 2 without blinking an eye. It’s just my opinion and I am by no means an expert. In fact I am fairly certain that most of the bloggers on this site know WAY more than me when it comes to such things as contracts and revenue regarding baseball.

$130M is a high payroll. They can’t exactly go out and add much because of it. Maybe they don’t have to run out to suddenly cut expenses but it’s not a blank check to create new ones either.

Expenses are more than a payroll. You’ve got to pay all your employees, cover the entire cost of your organization and its international ventures. Pay your taxes. Pay for equipment and utilities. Service loans. Etc.
