Tigers Bring Back Adam Everett
Check shortstop off the Detroit Tigers' Winter Meetings shopping list. The team has re-signed Adam Everett, agreeing to terms on a one-year deal (and making the announcement on its official Twitter feed).
Terms of the contract have yet to be reported, but a guess would be that it's at least for the $2.75 million that Alex Gonzalez will be receiving from the Blue Jays. Earlier today, Jon Paul Morosi reported Everett was seeking $3 million on the open market. When that information is released, we'll post it here.
(Thanks to demondeaconsbaseball for posting the news in a FanShot.)
UPDATE: Ken Rosenthal reported on Twitter that Everett's deal is for $1.55 million.
(Hat tip to allikazoo and SabreRoseTiger for posting the info.)

I think I read somewhere that his wife's family lives in Michigan, but still...

Thats a phenomenal price
I’ll take Everett at that price, which probably explains a lot about why he’s coming back. Adam is a good guy from what I’ve heard and I bet he knows that the reason guys like Grandy are on the block is because the Tigers can’t overspend. Hopefully he just wants to be a Tiger and doesn’t mind staying to maybe help keep Grandy on this team. This signing really does change a lot on the trade front.
Only problem, our offense is still going to suck. We need a true leadoff hitter or hope that Inge hit’s over 250 next year so that bottom 3 doesn’t get embarrassed night in and out.
ok...
at that price I’m satisfied with an Opie/Santiago pairing.

It's like Law School
Look to the person on your right. Look to the person on your left. Only one of you will survive.

(Course, the jury’s still out on that one in the middle)
If you give me about an hour and a half I could do it

Okay, I set a speed record and did it in about 15 minutes
But it also looks like I only took 15 minutes:

I choose to vote Sardinha off the island next

Well I'm not voting for Armando...
…so I guess I’ll have to vote for the umpire in the background.

I was sincerely hoping we'd pick up someone else
I like the fact that he’s coming in very cheap. But i never really liked everett. too many times he seemed to let the tigers offense down at key points, stifling rallies, etc. I hope he improves his swing or else we’re in for another long year.

Everett is not the problem with the offense
Him hitting better would be nice, but I’m looking to Granderson not doing whatever that was he was doing last year, Ordoñez turning in a better season start to finish (yes, I believe he can do it) and Cabrera continuing to be the powerhouse he is and should be. If Inge can also notch his production to early 2009 numbers with surgically-repaired knees, that’s going to help quite a bit as well.
Everett was signed last off-season for his defense and was signed again for the same thing. The SS market was devastatingly slim this off-season for anyone with some defense and ability to start day-to-day. I have a feeling The Shortstop (Everett-Santiago platoon) will continue to not be a strong point but not a particularly weak point, either. This isn’t the downfall of the team by any stretch of the imagination. We took care of a need extremely cheap with someone that is proven up the middle.

That's poorly written.
Sorry about that. If you need clarification, feel free to ask.

I understood it and agree
there’s a reason he bats in the bottom of the order, we don’t expect much out of him. everyone bobbles the ball once in awhile, but in 2009 he was a key part of an improving infield. let’s not forget he’s also lead the league in sac hits (and a good bunter, who the hell else on our team is any good at that?) – he’s a team player.
wow...
you’re expecting way to much out of someone who has never been known for his bat.

If you're looking to Adam Everett to help your offense...
…I think your team has more troubles than just his bat.
