With the Pierre rumors, it's clear Dombrowski is looking for any player that fits some sort of leadoff profile. Or, maybe it's just a way of raising Podsednik's cost for the White Sox.

I don't understand . . .

Why the Tigers are looking at this kind of player right after acquiring Austin Jackson. If they don’t believe in him enough to start him, then the great trade looks a lot less like a good idea. Surely they can’t be thinking of playing both Jackson and Pierre/ Posednik/random leadoff guy at the same time?

It's already been reported they plan on starting Jackson,

However, I personally hope they’re having second thoughts, provided they can find a one-year stopgap.

Podsednick > Pierre

IMHO. Plus no need to worry about NL to AL drop in batting average.

true

But when you’re in a weak division and just downgraded your team presently, you have to take every advantage you can get.

With all due respect

Scotty Pods is not an “advantage”. He is a fourth outfielder.

In case anyone's interested

It’s mostly about the White Sox being interested in Brett Gardner (duh), but it also contains this little piece of information:

The White Sox had Scott Podsednik arond last year, but Cowley says they haven’t offered him the two-year deal he wants. The Royals and Tigers are also unwilling to give Podsednik a second year at this point.
