Lyon gone to Houston...

per MLB Trade Rumors.

Star-divide

The hits just keep on coming.  Also on the MLBTR site, it says we're interested in Podsednik.  I relayed this message to my wife.  She asked:  "Why would we want Podsednik?  Because he's basically free?"  She has a pretty good handle on the situation.

I know there are baseball reasons, business reasons, whatever.  That doesn't mean I have to like it.  Who goes away tomorrow?  DD said today that he's not doing anything to improve the offense.

Hey, we have lots of relief arms.

That draft pick is definitely good news to me (maybe we can get a position player).

Or a starter

Or something that doesn’t come out of the bullpen.

Oh well.

$15m/3 years? Yeah, I’ll pass. Highly paid closers are more miss than hit. Yes, I’m aware of Joe Nathan and Mariano Rivera. I’m also aware of the trail of dead that has tried to reach that status.

I said as much earlier

Lyon was asking for 2 years/$9 million, which I think is reasonable for the job he did and I would’ve been happy to see the Tigers give him that deal. But the third year from Houston was something the Tigers were probably not willing to match, nor should they have been. The law of averages alone suggests someone from our crop of young relievers would be ready by 2012.
