Spring Game Thread: Braves at Tigers

Jair Jurrjens vs. Justin Verlander, 1:05 p.m. EST

I don't think we'll have Game Threads for every Spring Training game, but for the opener, I thought we'd open up the doors and air the place out.  (We will, however, post Open Threads for those games that are televised this spring.)

Today's game isn't on TV, but you can listen locally on WXYT (97.1 FM or 1270 AM).  As Todd pointed out, not all radio affiliates will likely be carrying the game.  I believe you can also listen to the game on MLB Gameday Audio.

Justin Verlander is set to pitch two innings, followed by two innings from Zach Miner.  Other pitchers that should see action include Eddie Bonine, Chris Lambert, Rudy Darrow, and Fu-Te Ni.

And isn't that a fine "how do you do" to see Jair Jurrjens opposing the Tigers today?  Also going for the Braves should be Jo-Jo Reyes, Manny Acosta, Stephen Marek, Eric O'Flaherty, and Juan Perez.

Gary Sheffield will probably sit out today after taking a pitch on his elbow yesterday.  The Braves are expected to keep Chipper Jones and Garret Anderson back home.

Talking Chop has your SB Nation opposing view.

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!

GO GREEN!

I’ll be listening here in GR on 1340am WBBL. Unfortunately they are cutting the game off at 3pm. The Huge Show has a charity event today and they felt they needed to be committed to that. I’m hoping the sister station picks it up after 3pm….96.9 FM

PLAY BALL!!!!

Radio in West Michigan

I think WLAV starts broadcasting when the regular season starts…and for people closer to the lakeshore, WHTC 1450 broadcasts most of the games as well

I won’t be able to hear the game, unfortunately. I’m not paying for Gameday Audio and I don’t even have a radio in my apartment. MLB blackout rules really suck, since I wouldn’t be able to hear it over internet stream of broadcast radio.

Jair Jair who?

Way to get the RBI, MIggy.

by MSU4LIF on Feb 25, 2009 1:20 PM EST reply actions

After 1 inning.....Tigers 1 / Braves 0

Tigers started GREEEEAAATT getting the first three hitters on base, however a sac fly by Miggs and an inning ending double play ended the threat.

It is nice getting a quick one of Jair, but V’s walk concerns me

baseball games already….my how time flies…I’m actually considering going in for the gameday audio…have to flip that mental coin at some point….but it’d make work go by more pleasantly on those afternoon game days, that’d be worth 15 bucks, easy….

I know, I talk too much. But hope some of you who don’t have any access to the game at least got an idea of what was happening. Tigers did pretty good. Pitchers looked pretty good.

by densogirl on Feb 25, 2009 3:46 PM EST reply actions

Thanx densogirl

Appreciate the play by play today.

:-)

by MSU4LIF on Feb 25, 2009 3:46 PM EST reply actions

Not sure who threw more pitches…Verlander or Lyon. Willis is pitching Friday according to Jim and Dan. Bondo will pitch Saturday.

by densogirl on Feb 25, 2009 3:49 PM EST reply actions

XM Radio

If you have XM radio, it was on channel 184 today, depending on the opponent the channel the Tigers are on varies between 176 and 190 on XM. They only broadcast the home team announcers though.

by Waterfallguy59 on Feb 25, 2009 4:22 PM EST reply actions

Looking ahead to Thursday

Tigers vs Nationals from Space Coast Stadium in Viera, Florida at 1:05. No TV or radio today, though perhaps the Nationals radio network will carry the game on XM?

Detroit will get its first look at SP Edwin Jackson, who is expected to pitch two innings. He will be followed by Nate Robertson, Rick Porcello, Joel Zumaya, Clay Rapada and Macay McBride.

The first four guys I’ll be interested in how they do…

XM Radio is a must-have for the serious baseball fan as every regular season game in MLB is broadcast.
