WBC Open Thread: USA vs. Venezuela

You know, it just occurred to me that maybe we should have an Open Thread for tonight's USA vs. Venezuela World Baseball Classic game, considering that four Detroit Tigers are playing.

Miguel Cabrera (1B), Magglio Ordonez (LF), and Carlos Guillen (DH) are batting 4-5-6 for Venezuela, while Armando Galarraga is the starting pitcher.

Curtis Granderson bats ninth and plays in centerfield for Team USA.

Apologies for the tardiness.  We're in the bottom of the first inning, as I post this.  If you're watching, we are here for you.

Here's a dilemma for you...

What if Jason Grilli was available? Would you want him pitching for Team USA or Venezuela?

Team USA

Does not need any weak sh*t from Jason Grilli.

I don't want to hear any weak sh*t from Jason Grilli.

Has the turf at Rogers Centre always looked that bad?

Maybe it’s my imagination. The seams have never seemed so visible.

wow. look at galarraga go! other than throwing that ball at the batter, he’s looking great!

They posted the lineups...

…and I thought the USA one was upside-down.

Everybody's a jerk. You. Me. This jerk.

I kind of sort of

feel bad for Grilli. He was a nice guy, and I think the whole Jason v Jim battle got blown way out of proportion (by jimmy). I want him to do well….but I’m glad he’s gone.

He was probably our best reliever when we traded him, too

He just became such a focus of fan animosity that they almost HAD to send him away

Grilli

Guillen took him deep. I’m sure that made Leyland smile a bit between smokes.

USA versus the TIGERS

I wish I could hear the conversations the day they all get back to Lakeland.

Jason Grilli isn't pitching for the USA

cause Jason Grilli didn’t pitch good enough when he was in the USA.

I love these games but it’s so confusing seeing all our Tigers on the different teams. These games sure are better than watching spring training games. Lots more excitement!

One scary thing about the WBC

The advertising on some of the uniforms. Was it the Dominican Republic that had that big Best Buy patch on the sleeve?

If this is the future, it’s going to be gaudy and ugly.

yeah, I saw that. not so classy.

I don't mind ads

I’ve got a hockey sweater where the main logo is a swedish beer company and about 5 or 6 different patches on it. Kinda reminds of NASCAR, which, well, I guess is overdoing it a bit. But I don’t mind the ads.

Grilli could wear an ad for Beano!

Speaking of ads and Grilli.

Surely you’ve all seen this ad.

Anyway, I love the Jason Grilli animosity because he and I had a lot of beef with one another before the whole Jim/Jason war. I wrote about it on my blog, and then decided that the hatchet had been buried because he gave me a ball when I went to the games in Atlanta two years ago. I did however, quickly end our relationship forever after he blew a game a few days later. I guess you could say, I was a fair weather Jason Grilli fan. Uncharacteristic of me as a whole, but pretty funny nonetheless.

I also posted a funny article you all may have seen that was in Yahoo! early last season when we started 2-10. You can see that post here.

Great win by USA btw.
