Today's Lesson in Blog/Website Etiquette
Note to Detroit's 97.1 "The Ticket" (or perhaps more specifically, to whomever posts material to the "Valenti and Foster" page):
If a blog posts a photo, one the author created himself for his website, and which wasn't published anywhere else, and you take that same photo, post it on your site, and neglect to give proper credit to the original source, that's rude. (Kind of like a certain MLive.com blogger did to us one time... oh, and another time.)
It's like if one of us ran a clip from the show, perhaps one in which no host or station names were mentioned, and didn't cite where it came from. A douchebag move, really.
We're talking about four to five words and a hyperlink. It's not a lot to ask for. And it's the right thing to do.
(But hey, at least you posted the image to your own website host, instead of stealing bandwidth. See, you're not that bad.)
If you have any questions, perhaps you might consult this post from DigiKev. (See what I did right there?)

Clowns
Can anyone really take Valenti and Foster seriously with that banner picture? Ian I think you should get a nice headshot of you with a shiny shaved head trying to look hard. It would really add to the site.

Spot on
I was thinking the same thing. Their picture reminds me of this:

97.1
I’ve never been a fan of the station, especially of those two guys, so this classless move is not surprising. The loss of WDFN local programming was basically the death of good local sports radio in Detroit. Here’s hoping some of the old 1130 guys will take over for some of the Tickets terrible hosts. Boombaya jackasses.

Usually a big fan of Valenti and Foster
however this takes them (or as Ian said, whoever posts pictures to their website) down in my book. Classless move. They are saying they are above linking blogs/giving other people pub by not linking Bilf because obviously it’s really easy to link someone else. I link this blog everyday and it literally takes me 30 seconds to copy the link and paste it to some highlighted text. It’s just a matter of why they didn’t link their source… until that reason comes forth and they correct it, I’ll allow “douchebag move.”
I also see they had no problem at least mentioning the Detroit News when they used one of their photos (although since there’s no link it may have been done reluctantly so since it’s extra obvious that photo was rare). They also make fun of some girl for having a poor tooth to gum ratio. Poor taste.

I dont like sports talk radio
passionate fans, uninformed opinions.
kind of like an election. Scary thought.
Hope these media folks realize if they want to be part of a community they do themselves no favors by stepping into it on the wrong foot like that.

Well done, Ian.
I find it interesting that “legitimate” journalists (Chris McCoskey comes to mind) will complain about bloggers stepping on their turf, but then fail to uphold their own standards in “borrowing” from them generously.

It’s more than rude, it’s a copyright violation.

Well said, Ian...
Than again, any post dissing the buffoons on sports talk radio (XYT has become unlistenable and full of “man-talk” since DFN had it’s heart cut out by Cheap Channel) is OK by me.

Thank you
DFN is sorely, sorely missed.

Bush league
Wow, that May-Treanor post from Schmhel is particularly egregious. And the rip-off isn’t even well-executed. The MLive blogger apparently doesn’t like his wife. Didn’t want to know.
I say we all petition MLive to replace that dude with Jonathan Oosting, who filled in admirably on the game thread today. I’m not sure that Oosting is as hardcore a Tigers fan as some of the other bloggers out there (he used to do a video game blog), but I’m confident he’ll give credit where it’s due and write more cleverly than that guy.
