Game 45: Tigers at Royals
Detroit Tigers at Kansas City Royals, May 27, 2009 2:10 PM EDT
Rick Porcello (5-3, 3.55) vs.
Kyle Davies (2-3, 4.78), 2:10 p.m. EST
The Tigers ran into the buzzsaw that is Zack Greinke last night, but a win this afternoon would give Detroit the series and send them out with a four-game lead over the Royals in the AL Central.
Kyle Davies seemed to be exposed as less than a top-tier starter the last time he faced the Tigers, who tagged him for seven runs and eight hits (two of them homers) in 5.1 innings. And he's only won one of his five starts since then. But Davies has also been victimized by the Royals' lineup in his past three games, getting just five runs of support. In those games, he allowed six runs in 19 innings.
Rick Porcello has won four straight starts, giving up just three runs in 24 innings. And with a win today, he'd join some rather exclusive company. According to MLB.com, no pitcher 20 years old or younger has won five in a row since Dwight Gooden in 1985. But one of his three losses came against the Royals, who scored five runs (four earned) against him in five innings at Kauffman Stadium.
Josh Anderson leads off for the Tigers, with Curtis Granderson batting fifth. Hopefully, it works better today than it did on Sunday. Here are your starting lineups.

John Gibbons will manage the Royals today
Hillman suspended 1 game for his ejection and inadvertently spitting in the umpire’s eyes

but on gameday anderson singled, stole second, then was picked off at second….the tigers r now done batting
He got picked off
and didn’t slide back to the base. Leyland was disgusted.
"It's designed to break your heart. The game begins in the spring, when everything is new again, and it blossoms in the summer, filling the afternoons and evenings, and then as soon as the chill rains come, it stops, and leaves you to face the fall alone". A. Bartlett Giamatti
that's how it started last night, but in our favor
hopefully same switcheroo result

Another K
Not the best inning for Porcello, but it didn’t turn into one of those Bonderman-bad first inning.
Try lowering your video quality
and restarting too…worked for me back in the 1st

It just keeps saying commercial break
I have restarted it like 4 times. Guess it doesn’t like me today
I restarted it
lowered the video quality and it said commercial break and was going to try another game by clicking on “Today’s Games” and as soon as I clicked that it started working

good to hear
yeah lowering the video quality is what did it for me

I never use higher video quality anyway
I don’t like being like 2 batters behind everyone else

I wish this was a night game
It’s my birthday and there is nothing better then watching a game and having a beer as my present to myself. Instead, I’m stuck at work.
Oh well, I will be at the Tiger’s Angels game next Sunday
happy birthday
and omg I remember that baseball card
and not a wings fan? that’s a good present!

guess his slump is over
He's a scrub
Can’t play third to save his life either
anyone use mlb.tv?
i cant get it to work…its said the telecast has been in a commercial break for this whole inning.
nah its streaming fine
thats not the problem – watching the cubs game in HD too but the tigers game won’t come back from commercial break
yeah it's just the tigers game
you have to lower the video quality (and I restarted it in addition to that too)
by Detroit4lyfe on May 27, 2009 3:20 PM EDT up reply actions
Just turn it off the nexdex
It should come right up. You cant just lower it you have to slide the thing off of nexdex
He's in uncharted waters!

there we go...
good looks guys thanks got it working
Who woulda thunk....
That Porcello would be on the edge of his team leading 6th win at this point?
the mud hens win!
apparently they were on a 10 game losing streak.
Thames finally got a hit but he’s now 1-for-13.
Ah, yes you're right
but Rod is too country strong to fall for Mario’s tricks

You know what's a joke?
Youkilis leads the all-star voting at 1st base by more than 100,000 votes over Miguel and he’s been on the DL
Good point
but I’d rather have the best players playing for the AL so we can get home field in the World Series

No one's really gonna care about the Tigs unless we do this well for 2 more months or so
at which point, we might get players some more popularity, featured games on sports sites, etc.
all-star voting is always a joke
mike schmidt was voted to start after he retired
alwaysatiger.blogspot.com
anyone watching Champions' League?
sick game going on, barcelona is winning 2 – 0 over Manchester United!! :)
I would be if the tigers weren't on
any time Man U loses, it’s a good thing!
