Game 26: Twins at Tigers
Minnesota Twins at Detroit Tigers, May 5, 2009 7:05 PM EDT
VS.
Tigers rookie Rick Porcello will take the rubber tonight looking for his first win since April 19 (and the second of his career.) He's allowed 10 earned runs, five walks and three home runs over the past two games, so he'll need to turn all of those storylines around if he wants to keep the Tigers from being "swept" in this two-game series with the Twins.
Toeing the rubber for the Twins will be Nick Blackburn, who doesn't miss a lot of bats but doesn't miss the strikezone much, either. How's he win? Keeps the ball in the park, for one, having allowed just one home run in about 31 innings of work.
Finally, Ian will be returning to the Great Lakes State tonight, and will be back blogging here Wednesday. I've enjoyed my time guest-blogging. Hope you've all enjoyed it, too!
Kurt of Mack Avenue Tigers is guest-blogging while Ian is in Seattle.

Did Anderson lead off last night?
I knew he would be, didn’t expect it to be by beginning of May though

I'm lovin this!
"It's designed to break your heart. The game begins in the spring, when everything is new again, and it blossoms in the summer, filling the afternoons and evenings, and then as soon as the chill rains come, it stops, and leaves you to face the fall alone". A. Bartlett Giamatti
So, if we get 2 runs this inning....
are we due to give up at least that many in the next? Recent history would suggest….
Oh, Clete

Shame on the doubters!

it will be interesting
to see how the beat writers deal with this game. At least, for me anyway, since I did this for a living.
Easy plotline: Leyland changes lineup. Lineup scores six runs in two innings.
But you know everyone is going to be tempted to write that, so what’s the spin that makes your story best?
it's been freezing up for me as well
though havent been kicked out…yet

is clete a real threat?
or is he just having a good day?
hes a HR shy of the cycle
career 772 OPS
brought up for his glove mostly, I think. But tonight, he’s magic.

Because the Tigers were waiting until they struggled
They had him last year and he started off amazing remember? They just wanted to preserve it until they needed it.
Clete had TJ surger last year

If they mark that a hit
Clete’s got a competitor in the cycle race

Don't ruin a perfect game like Jackson did...
And DO NOT let Lyon pitch until the next inning or you’ll get 3 ER my friend…
I'll pretend
he just wanted to test himself.
In reality, running out of steam and can’t keep the ball down.
I gotta say...
Look at that lineup. I think Leyland has a winning team assembled just like it is tonight. If anything, Inge can go anywhere and I think he will be productive, and I’m confident that Anderson can handle lead-off. Virtually everyone on that lineup is productive.
still rather see Grandy and Thomas flip-flopped
but I like the eight guys in the field, for sure.

This is entirely random and late but
I have a giant baseball man-crush on Clete Thomas, and this lineup. Hooray Tigers!
there's a reason for
the cult of clete!

and if that hit happens to be Clete's home run
that would be very cool

well unless the twins make a whale of a comeback
the tigers wrap it up after the eighth
