Game 29: Tigers at Indians
Detroit Tigers at Cleveland Indians, May 9, 2009 7:05 PM EDT
Edwin Jackson (1-2, 3.08) vs.
Fausto Carmona (1-3, 6.11), 7:05 p.m. EST
Hopefully, we don't have to repeat this qualifier throughout the season, but Edwin Jackson has certainly pitched better this year than his numbers indicate. (Although that ERA is a pretty good indicator.) In his previous start, Jackson threw one-run ball for six innings before the Twins hung another three on him. Had he gotten some run support earlier in the game, perhaps it wouldn't have come to that.
Considering the Tigers have only scored one run in their last 22 innings, however, maybe Jackson should expect another less than supportive effort from his lineup tonight.
Like Jackson, Fausto Carmona is also winless in his last three starts. But he hasn't been quite as stingy in allowing runs, and his offense may have even bailed him out of a couple more losses this season. Carmona went undefeated against the Tigers last season, going 3-0 in four starts with a 3.91 ERA. His career record versus Detroit is 6-2 with a 3.57 ERA in 12 appearances.
With the Tigers facing a right-handed starter for the first time in two games, Josh Anderson returns to the lineup. Jeff Larish also gets a start tonight, subbing at first base for Miguel Cabrera, who will DH. And with Clete Thomas likely playing again in right field, Magglio Ordonez will get the night off. (As Jason Beck points out, lefties are batting .329/.418/.570 against Carmona this season.)

Congrats!!
A very exciting day for you today!
Three hours late
But congratulations, Wendy. That’s fantastic news!

According to the headline on MLB.com
The Tigers haven’t lost a weekend game. That’s amazing.
I’ve jinxed the team, haven’t I?
They have to win today because I’m afraid they must lose tomorrow. :(
For the last six Red Wings playoff games, whenever the Tigers won the Wings lost and vice versa. I love both sports, but the playoffs come first (especially if they can knock out the blasted cheap-shotting whining Ducks).

Too damn many graduates, and the speaker sucked. I think it was Granholm.

We had Maya Angelou at our commencement.
I went to the Riv instead. Ha, there’s my MSU experience in two sentences.

these are their alternates this year, a throwback though, like Boston using its really old uniform on the road.

i'll take them 10 out of 10 times
compared to that hideous tanktop-style jersey some teams wear.

Could always be worse.
The saga of hideous hockey third jerseys is epic.
I like pitcher’s duels a lot, but I’d really, really like the Tigers to score more than one lonely run for Jackson.
(Although right now I’d be happy with any positive integer, no matter how small.)

Tigers winning by a lot > Tigers winning a pitching duel > Tigers losing a pitching duel > that crapfest vs Buehrle

… somebody said it yesterday, but THIS game is boring.
It was shortly after that comment that the Tigers scored, I think. Maybe runs come soon? :)

Are you a writer yourself?

Yes, I write & edit for a small trade pub, and I have a tigers blog.

That counts as far as I’m concerned – but sometimes I consider myself an artist (even though it’s a hooby that unfortunately I don’t often have time for). But I draw and paint when I can.
I think everyone needs a creative outlet of some sort – writing, art, dance, singing, whatever.

hooby = hobby
Gack, my spelling is awful tonight. Must be because I’m not a writer. ;)

i always admire artists, because nothing I do ever comes out as it's pictured in my mind

The problem is I only have a small house and most of the wall space is covered with bookshelves.
Also finding time. I’m setting up the second bedroom in my house as a craft room and studio, though, so it should be easier then.
I admire writers because I have a hard time figuring out how to express myself in words. My vocabulary also gets a lot more extensive when I’m angry – I start calling people troglodytes and coprolites because I never learned any good cuss words when I was younger, and now I don’t want my nephew hearing bad words from his aunt. He should learn bad words from his dad and grandfathers like a normal little boy.

New apartment, no cable yet

Someone break down the game so far, if ya don’t mind? Especially Edwin “On My Fantasy Team” Jackson?
OT Irony....
So, Helio goes from facing 20 years in Federal pound you in the arse prison a month ago, to winning the pole for the 500. Pretty good story line, huh Kurt?

How was Mr. Jackson today?

So I drove to Dairy Queen during the 7th inning
and Jim Price was chowing down something fierce. I felt like some food would come spitting out of my radio..
I heard that too, on the way home
Nothing bugs me more than listening to people talk on the radio while eating.

I TiVoed the 3 a.m. airing of last night’s game just to hear Rod’s reaction on the Granderson catch. I think I’m losing my mind.

He’s been injured a lot recently.
I’m glad to see him still pitching, though. I blame Dusty Baker for wrecking him. :(

Mark Prior would punch Dusty
unfortunately he cant lift his arm above his neck without tearing tendons

No kidding. My mom hates his guts for his pitcher destruction. I think she’d be sorely tempted to run him over with her car if she saw him crossing the street.
Prior had such a smooth pitching motion. I could have watched him throw all day long.

B2B shutout over a division rival no less
I recall hearing leyland making a big deal about division games and their dismal record last year against the AL Central. Series like this help that stat out a ton.
Congratulations, girl!
A big day for you!
