Tigers' Rotation Conundrum
So here's a thought now that John Smoltz is coming back for the Red Sox - the Tigers should trade for Brad Penny. Granted, he's not anything special, but he sure has been more effective that Dontrelle this year. Since he's signed for only one year, I doubt it would take much for Detroit to pry him away. The downside to trading for him is that he's making 5 million this year, plus incentives, which is a heck of a lot more than French, Lambert, Bonine or any other minor-league starter.

Meh, no thank you
A broken Ben Sheets is better than a healthy Brad Penny…and we wouldn’t have to give up anything for him.

And even if Sheets is coming off another injury...
He arguably had his BEST season last season. This shows he can bounce back from injuries. Seriously, if we can give Freddy Garcia a chance and try him out why not Sheets?

From what I hear, Sheets is probably going to out until at least August. This might not be the latest word on him, but he is still recovering from surgery (elbow?).

Why not take a gamble
on Pedro Martinez or Paul Byrd? Lord knows we don’t have anyone on the farm to trade for a good pitcher, so I say we take a flyer on one of the old guys. If we can get them for a reasonably low risk contract, it might be worth a shot.
And while we’re at it, if the Tigers don’t want to call up Dusty Ryan, they should look into Toby Hall or Javier Valentin as a backup catcher. Either one would probably do better than a .160 OPS.

+1
We could fix this club with a couple smart FA signs and a deal for a bat.

Someone On The Main Board....
…..mentioned larish for Sanchez of the Giants…..The Giant need a left handed bat with pop and a change of scenery could help both guys

I'd kill for that
Sanchez is loaded with potential while Larish is only average.

At first glimpes, just looking at his ERA and record this season, I’d say no.
But, looking deeper. He averages about a strikeout per inning pitched (in 4 seasons) and has only walked 43. His hit total is a little high, as that is also about 1 per inning.
I’d say this would be a great trade. Larish hasn’t showed he can play every day. Good call Bennie and Deacon.
