Victory, Detroit! Victory!
Losing streak over! Six runs (three more than three) scored! A home run from Placido Polanco! Tigers 6, Cardinals 3! All things are possible!
Oh, and is Fernando Rodney hurt? Three walks? Nine strikes in 22 pitches? Ugliest save ever?
Exclamation points and question marks. 800-plus comments in the GameThread. (And yes, I nodded off before I could open an overflow thread. It's embarrassing.)
Proper recap tomorrow. We're sleepy here at BYB HQ.

13/14
We all know that blown save against the white sox last week was a blown save, whether MLB’s stupid rules consider it one or not.
Wow Ok....
….13/14 is terrible……Kinda like how Zumaya is like 1 of 5 this year in saves…..AND PEOPLE WANT HIM TO CLOSE!!!!…..GO TIGS…..GO RODNEY!!!!

Isn't there some strange stat...
that anytime Polly homers, the Tigers win? Sure seems like it…
I thought when Polly homered, an angel gets its wings...
but, the win thing works for me, too

I am not so sure we get to watch a ball game tonight!
Double dip tomorrow? Here in Naptown we are already under a Tornado Watch, and the as Bob Dylan wrote, “A Hard Rain Is Gonna Fall”…….
"Remember there's a big difference between kneeling down and bending over."
If Thames can stabilize the cleanup position the Tigers offense should fall into place… I love Cabrera in the 3 hole, get your best hitter up in the 1st!
How long will Mags be benched for???

“That, and he has 5 RBIs in the past month.
“That, and he an OPS under .600 in June.
“That, and he has the same number of home runs as Placido Polanco.
“That, and he leads the Tigers in rallies killed because he ground into a double play.
“That, and …”

try, “because he’s sucking it up right now”, and you probably won’t get an argument….
The walk-off home run to send the Tigers to the World Series give him protection against the blanket “he sucks” assessment in my book, same as all the Red Sox fans are rationalizing Big Papi’s struggles this eyar….
Agreed
I was looking forward to watching the sweet swings of Maggs again this year. But my heart has been broken. However, I will not give up on him. I think we will see his power bat before the season’s end. But whether its here or with another team remains to be seen.
Welcome to Detroit>>Where the weak are killed and eaten.
That's what I was thinking...
Mags has done to many good things for this team to just be told he sucks. Home run into the world series. A batting title. Plus hitting with power and being solid in right field. He deserves a little better than “he sucks.” No one saw this massive slump coming and we all had our magglio wigs out at the start of the season.
aka he sucks
Dontrelle Syndrome. We all want him to do well, but if he can’t perform he needs to straighten himself out and stop bringing the team down. Everybody slumps; hopefully he’ll get out of his when he’s allowed off the pine.
aka no he doesn't...
saying he sucks means he has and always will suck. You should know that this just isn’t true.
sucks implied the present
and uhm, he does. I wish it wasn’t true either. The Tigers could really use the batter he used to be even a year ago. But to imply he is anything but bad this season, I will not buy.

I was wondering about that too. In fact it was the first thing I looked for when I logged in this morning.
Welcome to Detroit>>Where the weak are killed and eaten.
Apologies - really
I intended to have it posted this morning. No excuses. Just didn’t get it done.

If it’s good I might read the majority of the comments from last nights game.
No pressure Ian
Hey
for all of you who live in places other than the Detroit-Metro area, we are supposed to get some pretty wicked T-storms this evening. Starting around 5:30 or so with a little break (supposedly) around 8. Fox-Detroit said this is the biggest storm system headed our way so far this year. High winds heavy rain and the whole shot. I hope it doesn’t rain because I basically live for baseball in the summer…Maybe a double header tomorrow or Sunday. sigh
Welcome to Detroit>>Where the weak are killed and eaten.

will help. I have an Indian Blessing candle I am going to light.

lol, so true. He should let everyone do "their" jobs and worry about his own job. He's a real weiner.
But I was sad to read that Maggs wife has cancer. I had no idea that was the problem.
