I am most likely in the Minority here

and will probably be condemned for what i am about to say but here goes. Alright Dave Dambroski has put forth one of the worst offenses in the league this season and to be perfectly honest the pitching staff doesn't look so hot either, yes Verlander and Jackson are maybe the best 1-2 punch in the league and Porcello is a strong candidate for ROY but after them who is there? Galarraga sucks, Willis is now on the DL, Bonderman is probably done for the season ,and Nate Robertson is looking terrible, we have no Pitching in are farm system because we traded everybody away we also have no posistion players in the farm system because Dambroski drafted Pitchers. So here is what i say, try and trade Magglio and if you cant get any prospects for him cut him, then buy out Willis and Robertson (Again try and trade fist but it will be highly unlikely anyone will want these guys with their contracts) after  the cuts bring up Wilkin Ramirez after that put everybody but Verlander,Jackson,Porcello,Cabrera,Granderson and Ramirez on the trade block, Polanco will probably be the first to go and get as many prospects as you can for him, next would probably be Thames and you could probably get a good young bat that needs developing, Laird and Everett are possibiltys if someone is looking to shore up their Defense. after the trade deadline look for some of those cuts and maybe try and get a steal in there. at the end of the season put Carlos Gullien on the block and hopefully smeone out there will be willing to take a risk to get his bat. If done the Tigers will cut a nice amount off their payroll and will be able to stockpile prospects, with all the money we saved we will be able to go out and get some FAs if we wanted. If we try and make a trade for a Pitcher and a Bat for the World Series run then we will probably have to give up Wilkin Ramirez and are top Pitching prospect maybe even Porcello (Who is are top Pitching Prospect but should be untouchable) is this really what we want? i dont it puts us in a Series or bust posistion and i think in a few years it will kill us

it’d be easier to figure out what exactly you’re saying if you used paragraphs :)

Hey, if we can trade Carlos Guillen, not that I think he’d bring much right now, I’d be all for it….I’m a fan of his, but he’s fallen off the map, injured or not.

I think you’re right, Rick Porcello is untouchable, he’s not going anywhere. That said, maybe someone like Rick Perry might possibly be used as bait if a spectacular offer came along (I’m talking about something impossible, like the Jays unloading Roy Halladay type trade offer)…

Wow....

….Can anyone say Over reaction????…….We stil have like a 10 games left…..This team just played 11 games in 10 days onthe road….Some of your assesment is correct but I mean come on only have a few guys be safe…..Give me a breask….This team will be fine….We do need a bat and a pitcher….I like the idea of trading Jeff Larish for Sanchez on the Giants….The want a left handed bat and we need a starter…..Id like to get hawpe but Ramirez will be hawpe in a few ywars so you are correct on keeping him…..But dont over react man…..Theres alot of season left….GO TIGS!!!

JMW

I am in no hurry to seeing the 2002-2003 tigers again, with 160 plus games in a season I for better or worse " mostly worse" treat every game like game 7 in the world series. I don’t think it’s time to strip the team but do agree it’s time to shake the tree for some bad apples that have not fallen off yet.

I wouldn't say we have no pitching in the farm system

No Rick Porcello in the farm system, certainly. But there’s some interesting pitchers. One of them is starting Saturday. Zach Simons has been striking out a batter per inning. He’s a bit old (24) for his level (double A now) but he’s interesting as a reliever candidate, as is Fu-Te Ni. I’m not gonna sit here and argue the cupboard is bursting, but it’s not empty.

+1

And you’re forgetting our savior- Casey Crosby. I’d bet money he’s fringe top-100 prospect if not a top 100 prospect by the end of the season.

Not only that, but we’re getting reinforcements from the draft- Jacob Turner looks better and better by the day, with KG at Baseball Prospectus complementing his secondary stuff. That, and we have a ton of bullpen prospects… nobody really exceptional, but some pretty good players.

Gotta go back to this

WE ARE IN FIRST PLACE IN THE CENTRAL!!!!!!!

<Alright enough yelling, calm down, write calmly.>

We are in first place in the worst division in baseball right now. A little history on teams that come out of the worst division in baseball the past couple years.

O6- NL Central — St. Louis, I won’t say what they did because it hurts to much.
07 – NL West — Colorado, lost in the world series.

That is all I got, but when the Tigers make the postseason I like their chances w/ Verlander and Jackson.

by Bigreg1544 on Jun 19, 2009 2:20 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

i will give 3/5

Verlander,Jackson and Porcello i like them all but look at the other 2 pitchers they suck you win 3/5 of your games and since the offense is one of the worst in the majors its probably going to be less

alright

if you can somehow get Halladay and keep Porcello and Perry i am all for it, and if you could somehow get a Big bat for a guy like Larish or Hessman i am for that too

by JMW62689 on Jun 19, 2009 3:01 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Why not call up Hessman?

Give him an outfielders glove and see if he can play left. Can’t do any worse than Anderson.

by demondeaconsbaseball on Jun 19, 2009 3:44 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Anderson has Speed

Hessman could be the backup to Cabrera not Larish if Thames ever goes down again bring Hessman up please

Perry

Is a fine young pitcher, this is true. However he needs to learn to control the ball a little more. Porcelleo is a prodigy, we were lucky to get him. But I would say if there is a trade which involves Perry go for it, I’d say the brass has the same mind set as we do. Although I like Perry I would, like to see the Tigers pick up someone with some experience some where. We need some big bats and another starter.

Welcome to Detroit>>Where the weak are killed and eaten.

I have some ideas

First lets trade Maggs to the Reds who need a right handed bat for Johnny Cueto and a prospect. Then, since we have a nice relationship with florida, lets package Robertson, Thames, Gullien, Everett and Galarraga and send them to Florida for Hanley Remerez and Dan Uggla. Then we can send Polanco and Willis to Colorado for Houston Street and Jason Marquis. Finally, lets call the Orieles and see if we can deal Inge and a prospect for Brooks Robinson circa 1965!
Seriously, I would love to see a lot of the above suggestions happen but they won’t. We are a flawed team but currently we are a first place team. Let’s remain calm and see what happens. The fact remains that cutting Shef was the exception not the norm for a baseball team. This is not the NFL, contracts are gauranteed and we can’t just cut every guy that isn’t producing because the cost is too high.

Those are probably the most far-fetched trades I've ever seen

Please, never be a GM for a professional sports team.

by Tagne13 on Jun 19, 2009 5:10 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Sorry...

There is no way Colorado would trade Street and Marquis for Polanco and Willis. At this point, I can’t see any team in MLB trading for Willis…

I thnk that was his point

Most trade talk by fans is unrealistic and silly.

by MackAveKurt on Jun 19, 2009 6:23 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Classic

I love your trade ideas. They are so unrealistic, and such a joke (which is just what you were going for) that some people would actually think you were speaking the truth.

Why, is everyone in such a hurry to dump this team? Aren’t we in 1st place, winners of the last 4? Just swept the NL Central 1st place team? And scored 22 runs in less than 3 games?

This thread was created

long before the Tigers were on a 4-game win streak to be fair. They were doing quite horribly up until the last 4 games in fact.

It’s understandable. It’s the ebb and flow of baseball. It’s just like how it’s inevitable they will go on another long losing streak at some point later this season. That’s just how baseball works when you play 162 games.

Also,

did I just hear on the radio that Leyland got a contract extension … anyone have details?

by tigerfaninChicago on Jun 19, 2009 5:02 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Anderson

Anderson has speed but it does no good because he doesn’t get on base. He’s now the worst hitter on the team since Sardinha went down (.605 OPS) and is playing way too much. Would much rather see Thomas back and Thames playing most days. A team can carry a catcher or shortstop who don’t hit much if they’re stellar defensively. But they need production from outfielders.

by ddpg4 on Jun 20, 2009 3:21 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Quitters

It irritates the crap out of me to hear people quit on this team so fast. I could see if this team was in last place, like last year. But this team is in 1st place! And has a lot of upside to it. I agree that we do need another starter (Jonathan Sanchez – San Fran) and a power bat/outfielder (Corey Hart – Milwaukee [so what he bats right handed])

Detroit does not need to go out and get Roy Halladay (yes, they do, stop lying to yourself Ryno). What we need is a 2-3-4 starter, someone who can go out there and give us a solid 6-7 innings every 5 days. We don’t need a Raul Ibanez type of power in the outfield (yes, it would be nice). Corey Hart will fit this bill perfectly and won’t cost the Tigers to much, if anything.

So, please people, have faith in this team and Dave Dombrowski. Mr Illitch gave DD the green light to go out and get whats needed, and I think in the next 6 weeks (till the trade deadline) that we will see a few new pieces in this line-up.

And lastly, I think this mid-season vacation Leyland gave Mags will have a positive effect, look what it did for Osgood (though he stayed away because the Wings were on the West coast trip and worked with Jim Bedard).

Stay positive Detroit

all i am saying is that we have no one in are farm system

Jacob Turner and the other top Pitchers we got in this years draft are probably a few years away from staring in the Bigs, aside from Wilkin Ramirez and Dusty Ryan i don’t see a big league guy out there as far as the Hitting/Fielding side goes pitching really isnt good either now well i can see us trading for a guy or two but we are going to give up prospects for them and frankly i don’t see us getting a Halladay or a Bedard because you would probably have to throw in Porcello to get a “Top” Pitcher unless Figaro shows signs of being something, Ryan Perry is a Relief Pitcher not a Starter so his trade value isn’t the same. basiclly my thoughts are this we have to win within 2-3 years or we are going to have to be HUGE spenders in the FA market just stay in the race i hope Maggs rebounds and Guillen and Gallaraga too heck if Dontrele can somehow bonce back then the Tiger are one of the best teams in baseball but these things are all huge ifs and if they don’t hit we won’t have guys to replace them and in 2-3 years we look like the Lions

by JMW62689 on Jun 21, 2009 10:25 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Oh does anybody have any info on some of are top prospects

i read these things sometimes but i just don’t like what i see out of them, like Jeff Larish he was supposed to be this great power hitter what they didn’t tell us is he cant make contact with the stinkin ball

by JMW62689 on Jun 21, 2009 10:26 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

you're missing a bunch

Riight now there’s no top 10 prospects to speak of, they’re already major leaguers, but there’s certainly guys who could contribute at the major league level, some this year, some in years to come.

You’re missing Scott Sizemore, who will more than likely be the Tigers’ starting second baseman. He was one of Erie’s top batters and he was recently promoted to Toledo, where he hit a grand slam today. You’ll see him in Detroit by the end of the season.

Cale Iorg in Erie is a terrific shortstop, from the defensive stand point, but the kid isn’t going to be much of a major league hitter. So it depends if the Tigers are looking for an Adam Everett type guy there. You’ve got Ryan Strieby, also in Erie, who they are really trying to teach left field. He is a first baseman by trade and not really good in the field but too young to be a DH. He’s got an OPS of 900+ and a ton of home runs.

A name you could hear in the future, Avasail Garcia, is said to be a 5-tooler. He is a real impressive Venezuelan who played in Advanced-A as a 17-year-old but he’s taken most of his bats in Low-A this year.

And that’s just off the top of my head.

PItching guys to watch, from Casey Fien in Toledo, who is striking out a lot but getting a bit unlucky, Zach Simons in Erie, Cody Satterwhite in Erie. Duane Below is a guy to watch, but he just suffered the setback of Tommy John surgery, so that’s unfortunate.

Thanks for posting that.

I didn’t want to have to be the one to go through the work of doing it :-P

I'm sure you could pick up from where I left off

I didn’t even consider most A-ball guys and might have skipped over some double-A as well.

Casey Crosby

I’ve been going gaga over this guy since he returned from TJS- he’s a 2007 draftee with electric stuff… been striking out boatloads at Class A… has a walk-to-strikeout rate of 34-68 (strikes out two for every one he walks), has more than a K per 9, has only allowed 2 HR in almost 60 IP… he’s gonna go far if his elbow holds up.
