Now Batting Seventh... Magglio Ordonez?

One of the questions hovering over tonight's series opener with the Cubs was answered this afternoon, when the Tigers announced that Magglio Ordonez would return to the Detroit lineup.  However, that's not the end of the story.  Ordonez will be batting seventh.

Has Maggs ever batted in the lower third of the batting order?  According to Baseball Reference, he's started in that spot 64 times over his career, in 70 games total.  In 266 plate appearances batting seventh, Ordonez has a .254/.287/.379 average with six homers and 27 RBIs.  We'll have to look deeper into those numbers to see if those PAs happened early in his career.

Maggs 7th

Bat him ninth. Anything, if it’ll perk his bat up. What’s his problem anyway? Does anyone know how his wife is doing? I heard she had surgery. What kind? If his problem has been worrying about her, I forgive him. Otherwise I say, “Off with the powerlocks!”

"It's designed to break your heart. The game begins in the spring, when everything is new again, and it blossoms in the summer, filling the afternoons and evenings, and then as soon as the chill rains come, it stops, and leaves you to face the fall alone". A. Bartlett Giamatti
