What do you think we need to get the Postseason?

I look at the Defense we have out in the field and the Offense these guys put up and im intrigued, i think Santiago and Everett have really stepped up for us i do however think we need to send Jeff Larish back to the Minors where he belongs i mean come on people 80% of his at bats are outs 50% of that number are strikeouts is the only reason he is up here his power? why not bring up Hessman and have him play DH or backup Cabera at 1st? heck i would rather have Alexis Gomez at DH i know Marcus Thames will probably take the DH spot when he returns but please never bring Larish back. I think we need at least 1 Starting Pitcher isn't Ben Sheets still out there? Tom Glavine would add a Veteran presence and a nice Left Handed Arm to the Rotation, heck try to bring Kenny Rogers out of retirement. so i guess the way i look at it we need a backup 1st Baseman/DH a Starting Pitcher and maybe an Outfielder and maybe another Utility Player oh and a backup Catcher too, i guess thats a lot to ask but really i think if we add another good/solid arm to the Rotation and a DH/backup for Cabera i think we will be looking pretty good

Bonderman

i forgot to say this but if he comes back and pitches like he is capable of pitching then i think you send away Willis and then still sign a guy to take Galaraggas spot, if Armando bounces back then send Porcello down and perserve his arm

I wonder

What we could get in a trade of Willis and Galarraga……if we could get 1 higher quality pitcher for those 2, I would say pull the trigger Dave!

We would still have JV, Bondo, Jackson, and Porcello…..add a fifth guy in a trade and we solidify the rotation, assuming Jeremy can still pitch well.

I love the Idea Of Glavine.....

….I brought this up in a thread yesterday…..I think wit h JV and Jackson thats a solid one two punch….We need a 3rd…..Porcello could be that guy but I think he will tire out as the season wears on…..maybe Bonderman can be that number 3 guy…..But 1st and foremost we need to get the bats going……I think Thama\es over Larish will be a huge improvement and get things back in order until Guillen can come back and be the DH.

Glavine

Is washed up…..his fastball is in the 70’s isn’t it? Yeah, he is great at locating his pitches, but so is Maddux. Maddux didn’t exactly find the same success he had in his early years in Chicago and while he was with the Braves, after he left the Braves. Sure he had a couple of winning seasons, but he lost almost as many games as he won, and he was getting too old to be the workhorse that they tried to make him be. Maddux finally retired at 42 years old, his last really good season coming in 2002…..Glavine is the same age now and his last great season was also in 2002. You could argue that he had good seasons in 2006 and 2007, but his ERA is steadily increasing. I do not see Glavine as a viable option in Detroit…..not even as a stop gap player.

I am all for looking outside the organization, but...

http://www.ajc.com/sports/content/sports/braves/stories/2009/06/03/braves_release_glavine.html

If the Braves aren’t even willing to give him a shot, would itbe in our best interest to? There are guys like Pedro and Sheets, who, while I am not neccessarily suggesting signing these guys, are probably more realistic short term optios for a team that has playoff aspirations.

Glavine

I have no idea why the heck Atlanta made this move but i don’t think it is an Injury concern he has been pitching quite well in his Rehab stints, i mean the guy has one 300 games he knows how to pitch and i don’t believe he would come out and just say i am looking forward to playing again in 2009 he has made his money and has 300 wins under his belt the guy is a Hall of Famer, my only concern is that he won’t come over to the AL. I think that if we get a Pitcher we need to get one Via Free Agency i don’t think we should send any prospects away in a trade, to me i would be looking at Ben Sheets,Tom Glavine,Kenny Rogers,Pedro Martinez in that order i think Dave Dambroski should sign Sheets/Glavine and then call up Kenny Rogers then release Willis and send Galaragga away and try to get a young pitching prospect or a backup Catcher/Outfielder either one would help us

I'm not convinced

an overcooked and/or injury-plagued pitcher is really gonna contribute much to this team. Sheets is the possible exception, only because he’s still potentially young enough to heal.

Rogers: It was a good ride and he pitched a gem at the only Tigers playoff game I have ever seen live, but that ride is over. He is 1743 years old.

Glavine: I think his best bet is to call it so he can join the Hall of Fame in 2014.

Pedro: Heck, we could also hire Bonds, and convince Sosa not to retire, and get a time machine for 1999…

Sheets: Definitely has the most left in the tank of the list. But there are HUGE question marks as to what remains after his surgery, which I think was his 344th surgery.

It would be awesome

If we got Ben Sheets. That would be an instant upgrade to our rotation. I wonder if the Brewers would take Willis and Galarraga for Sheets?

by KDawg on Jun 6, 2009 1:21 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Sheets is a free agent

but, if he was with the Brewers, and Doug Melvin made that trade, he wouldn’t be employed much longer. These are two guys that we don’t want. Until Randy Smith makes a triumphant return soon, no team is going to take these guys off our hands. Especially for anything near major league ready. Galarraga, maybe, but Willis makes waaaay too much money. We may be able to pay 90% of his remaining salary and get a low-level(read- never sniff a cup of coffee) prospect for him. The same reasons people here want to get rid of him, are the same reasons other teams don’t want him. If this were the NBA and it was Willis’ last year under contract, he would be immensely more valuable, but his contract is an albatross that offers no salary cap relief. Sorry for the rant.

Kenny Lofton?

I’m only half kidding… he probably had some left in the tank after last year, and I’d be willing to bet he could be a better long-term bet than Josh Anderson. I’d also take Jim Edmonds, who did a pretty good job with the Cubbies last year.

I’d also be willing to sign someone like Johnny Estrada to back up Gerald Laird.

Brad Hawpe & Huston Street from Colorado?

Don’t know what Detroit would have to give up but it most certainly would involve young SP.
