Am I the only one who thinks Fernando Rodney is a waste of DNA?
Every time Leyland brings him in, I start to sweat. He's like the second coming of Todd Jones, only not as reliable. Yeah, I know he can throw 100 MPH, but what good is a blazing fastball if he has no control? If he comes into a game and it's not a save opportunity, he looks lost. Tonight was simply pathetic beyond words.
The Tigers need to trade this clown for a couple of bats and a new fertilizer spreader for Heather Nabozny.

Let me get this straight...
You think Rodney sucks
But you think Detroit could get a couple of bats for him?

I wasn’t using the slang term “bats” to mean hitters. I meant actual bats. He sucks THAT bad.

He had just had 10......
……scoreless innings before today…..he may have gotten the loss….But the bats that the tigers hitters had in there own hands dont work apparently….The offense lost this game.

Last night was his first loss
I was critical of him in non-save situations early in the season, but that was the first time he’d allowed a run in his last 11 appearances. And six of those were in non-save situations.
Is he a “lights-out” closer? Maybe not. And no one’s saying he belongs among the elite. But c’mon, the Tigers are not losing games because Fernando Rodney is their closer.

So far!
I feel pretty confident when Rodney comes in. He drags it out, but so far this season, he’s been pretty good and really, we don’t have much choice. Zoom, mentally, isn’t ready for the closer spot yet (imo)

Rodney
…..has pitched great this year….last night was his first “screw up”……No one thought he would have lasted that long…his walks are way down….his veloicty is up…..theres only 8 lights out closers in baseball if that…..Rodney is fine…..Zumaya is not nearly ready to close.

how do you feel about Dontrelle Willis?
Or Zach Miner? Or Nate Robertson?
Rodney is an effective closer. Your concerns are misplaced.

The Tigers have much bigger concerns than Rodney as a closer. He gives me heart pains in non-save situations – but in save situations, he has been relatively good.

Rodney has done a great job so far this year
Every closer has bad moments….even Papelbon. I am much more concerned about our middle to long relief, IE Robertson, and our 5th starter. Miner is usually halfway decent. I would not be against seeing a package deal involving Willis, Robertson, Miner, and even Galarraga (or some combo thereof) for a solid starter like Ben Sheets and at least 1 decent middle/long reliever. Rodney may not be the “lights out” closer that we wish we had, but I do not think he is the real problem at the moment.

Package deal for Ben Sheets?
Ben Sheets currently doesn’t have a team. We can sign him anytime….for the right price I’m sure.

2nd Coming of Todd Jones?
Are you kidding me, you are going to use that line and not say it’s brandon lyons who not only kind of has the same kind of figure, facial hair, but they have the same kind of stuff and even rod allen back handed complements them the same way by saying “He throws strikes.”

That’s funny about Rodney being the second coming of Todd Jones since I have been calling him all year Todd Jones, JR. I thought he shouldve been gone last year, along with a few other pitchers.

Who Would Close Then....
….Definetly not Zumaya….We would have to trade for one…..nevertradefor a closer or sign one to a big contract….It rarely works

I'm pretty sure the Phillies would disagree with that
Maybe Brad Lidge is the exception, though.

I just dont think.....
…..A closer is worth 8 – 12 mil a year…..I think every team has a closer in there own system to call on.

We need to win the Central.
This is it. “Win now or start over.”The Tigers are getting older and very richer.Right now the closer is Rodney so be it.A least we do have option’s Perry- Lyon-Zum and just drafed a closer. And with Willis as a over paid lefty you stick with him. Why? He will throw off the hitters in a game. Then next pitcher hard throwing righty has a better chance to get the win. Then you win the game the series the Central and the Title.
