Game 56: Tigers at White Sox

Detroit Tigers at Chicago White Sox, Jun 8, 2009 2:05 PM EDT

  Armando Galarraga (3-6, 5.31) vs.   Clayton Richard (2-1, 3.97), 2:05 p.m. EST

We're playing two today, as the Tigers and White Sox begin a five-game series at U.S. Cellular Field.  Detroit currently has a 4.5 game lead over the third-place White Sox in the AL Central.  The second game of the doubleheader will be played at 8:11 p.m. EST.

Armando Galarraga is winless in his last seven starts, taking six losses during that span.  But he seems to be making small steps of improvement, and would certainly have benefited from better run support in his last three games.  Galarraga is 1-2 with a 5.11 ERA against the White Sox in three career appearances (two starts).  Both of those losses came at U.S. Cellular Field, where he's given up seven runs in six innings.

Clayton Richard has pitched well in three of his past four starts, but it was in his last game that he got knocked around.  Against the A's, Richard allowed five runs, seven hits (three of them home runs), and four walks in 5.1 innings.  He pitched 0.1 of an inning versus the Tigers earlier this season, giving up two hits.

Miguel Cabrera is in the starting lineup.  Jim Leyland says they'll see how Miggy does in this first game before deciding whether or not he'll play tonight.  According to Jason Beck, Cabrera insists that his hamstring feels better when he plays in the field, which is why he's not the designated hitter.

meh

the good news is I get to watch the Tigers in New York for the 2nd time this year on TV.

the bad news is that its on WGN with the Sox commentators.

I watch a lot of the Yankees(I’m not a fan of them.) Their commentators aren’t biased at all and overall do a pretty good job. The White Sox’s are a bunch of hicks and I don’t like them at all.

by actioncuse on Jun 8, 2009 2:43 PM EDT reply actions

you know that's true, and it shocks me

I watched a broadcast from the YES network being shown on MLB Network. I had no clue it wasn’t a national broadcast. They were right down the middle and not nearly as annoying as I picture anyone associated with theYankees

The Sox TV announcers are bad, but the White Sox radio guys are really pretty good, both guys contribute to the broadcast and keep it lively.

So...

… Perry pays the price for D-Train coming off the tracks, and desigNate never getting the chance to expose his suckiness?

Maybe

but he could do with a little more seasoning.imo

I believe it has way more to do with options.....

They can’t just send Nate or D-Train down, it’s a little more complicated than that with their contracts and service time.

Perry is a first year player. If they were going to send him down at any point this year it only counts as one option, so it doesn’t really hurt. He may not even leave the team, depending on what happens tonight…..

I could be wrong, but I am sure Kurt or Ian could expound.

"Remember there's a big difference between kneeling down and bending over."

if perry is down for less than 20 days

it doesn’t count as an option, I recently learned from Bill’s site.

I doubt he’s down that long. I suspect another moves comes after tomorrow night’s game.

plus

I don’t think options will really be a worry with Perry. he’s going to spend most of his career in the majors, by the looks of it.
