"We looked terrible in this series with guys on base. Day after day we had guys out there, and we looked like we had no idea how to knock a run in."
-- Jim Leyland on the Tigers' 1-for-26 performance with runners in scoring position at Yankee Stadium

besides it just being Monday
It’s another off day so we (and the team too) get to stew over that truly offensive performance over the weekend for another day. Hopefully, Seattle pitchers are the cure for what ails the Tigers, but with King Felix in the mix, who knows?

Attempt at being voice of reason:
The Tigers actually rank 3rd in the AL in OPS with RISP for the season. So let’s chalk this up as a minor glitch.

Of course, I wasn’t able to watch any of the games vs. the Yankees. Had I experienced it all live, I’m sure I’d be singing a different tune.

Leyland had an old-school quote sort of related to this after Saturday’s game. I can’t remember the exact wording, but it was along the lines of “People talk about OPS and that’s great, but gimme a guy who can drive in a run.”

I think everyone knows, or should anyway
to go 1-26 can only be described as a fluke. It’s a long season, you see streaks go both ways. And far as i remember, that one came in the second inning of the first game, didn’t it?
still, it was not fun to watch the futility all weekend, and the tigers are near the bottom in many statistical categories, so it really didn’t surprise anyone much either.

Well Leyland didn't do much to help them either
Where was the bunting, hit and runs, anything to spark them. Jim used to be alot more creative, “before” they extended his contract
I agree
he was doing a lot of “suicide” plays and manufacturing runs. Complacency does not suit us well. But I still have tons of faith in Tigers. They are a team full of scrappers. I never count them out of anything until after the last strike. In spite of Leyland.
