BYOBYB: Off-Day Open Thread
Okay, that was kind of a rough weekend. Here at BYB HQ, we've been trying to tell ourselves that there's no shame in getting swept at Yankee Stadium. But then we think about how the Tigers had a chance to win at least two of the games, if not all three, and then we get cranky, and yell, "What are you looking at?" to anyone nearby. Hopefully, you are coping better.
If not, there is always "BYOBYB," the off-day open thread where you can chat about anything you'd like: Anything you want to get off your chest about these Detroit Tigers? Want to talk about Major League Baseball, in general? Detroit sports, perhaps? Everyone likes food; you could talk about that. Seen any good movies or TV recently?
Or you could provide a caption to the above photo.
By the way, it was suggested that a screen shot of Edwin Jackson looking ticked off in the dugout at the end of yesterday's loss be the photo to accompany today's open thread. I tried, but it didn't turn out very well.

DAMMIT
it will not load on my stupid work pc. I will check when I get home. It goes to the MLB video page and does nothing else.
Welcome to Detroit>>Where the weak are killed and eaten.
Wow. I hadn't seen that.
Yeat another reason I say you couldn’t pay me enough to stand in against a Verlander or (healthy) Zumaya.
Geez. That hurt.
Was glad to see him get up on to his feet.
Welcome to Detroit>>Where the weak are killed and eaten.
the reason I have been so infrequent the last month or so
I'm so ahead of my time, my parents haven't met yet
NOOOOOOOOOOOO
my mom got married. A small deal at my sister’s. I was helping out.
I'm so ahead of my time, my parents haven't met yet
I often imagine my wedding being in vegas
although I’d be drunk getting married to a stripper named cinnamon
I'm so ahead of my time, my parents haven't met yet
Nah, but "Cinnamon" sounds the most likely
to have a great story about stripping to get through college, and how she’s just a few credits short. “Destiny” would be from BumFucc, IA, and have C-section scars.
I'm so ahead of my time, my parents haven't met yet
ha ha
I was engaged once and got maybe 1/3 of the way into the planning process.. never again. it was too much work and I didn’t even have a full time job
I got that beat...
I, too, was engaged to be married once….hell, it was this year, even….she called it off over religious matters back in January, just three months before we were supposed to get married….
And now she’s marrying some other guy next month.
I know there’s something to be said about moving on….but that’s slightly ridiculous, don’tcha think?
I came close to telling this story in the byb introduce yourself thread…didn’t fit the atmosphere then…

Just 3 games.....
…..not a huge deal…..Id be more upset if we were swept by twins or sox…..The division games are much more important……however getting swept is never good…..But not nearly as devistating as it would be against a divison foe…..I think we get back on rack against Seattle…..the bats will wake up…..I really think that they were trying to hit HRs in NY instaed of just hitting the ball hard…..IE all the popups…..Lets see how we feel after the seattle series….My guess is we will be feeling much better and ready to take on the sox…….GO TIGS!!!

I have been wondering for a while now
so maybe you guys can help. I am going to the game on the 25th, against the White Sux. Anyways, Porcello is scheduled to pitch the 26th, and there is a double-header the day before my game. Who do y’all think is pitching?
My guess is Jackson
JV is scheduled to pitch in the day game Friday. You might be able to figure it out from this probable pitchers schedule. You might be able to deduce from that. Jim has taken things outta whack lately so it’s hard to say.

Welcome to Detroit>>Where the weak are killed and eaten.
Maybe Edwin then?
Would be the second time I’ve seen him this season. Last time, he wasn’t sharp at all and we actually won the game with run support after he was pulled. Remember those days!? Run support!?
And the likelyhood of that being put on TV?
I’d say slim to none.
Guys in the trailer “We got a shot of some people holding signs that say BYB on them. Let’s switch to that shot!”
She's right, or bring a sixer of Mike's Hard Lemonade

Hey, I'm here ... for ... the party?
Yeah, I could do the TCAP thing well, I think.
and I always dress cute, so there should be no problems. :)
i was just thinking
between all of us we have to be able to come up with something that would get on there
in other words
most of Michigan and parts of Toledo and Chicago will see the game.

Just go poster board size Megan Fox
kinda inside-meaning, and just write “sports detroit” at the bottom. A Megan Fox poster would make the telecast at the Scripps Howard Spelling Bee.

I will be next to Leyland on the bench.

Looked absolutely everywhere, come to the conclusion I gave them to my dad
for safe-keeping, I guess. I think I am in 119, 120, not sure though, haha.
You guys will have a great time
Going to Comerica is my favorite summer activity… I am going to Christmas in July this Thursday.

And since it's BYOBYB
Here are some of Mike’s favorite time wasting websites(yes,I referred to myself in the third person. I apologize, and I hope it’s just a phase, but I digress)

yeah. I finally have time for a game thread, and it's an off-day
I almost went jogging earlier. that’s how bored I am
I'm so ahead of my time, my parents haven't met yet
also, I'm reading the archives of my twitter
and just came across a few entries that say things like “high hopes for bondo” and “zumaya, i love you” and “GRAND SLAM!”
le sigh
unrelated
why do people like animal collective?
apologies if you do or have no idea what i am talking about
YES!
I mean, one or two songs are good, and those are the ones where it’s mostly harmony vocals, but the majority are like, droning spinning electronic noise. Sometimes it’s annoying, sometimes just boring.
I would like to know as well.
they are one of many bands people say they like
because their one cool friend liked them 2 years ago
I'm so ahead of my time, my parents haven't met yet
Haha
Now, pitchfork did tell me about Grizzly Bear, and they are the only band aside from Fleet Foxes that I like in this “new age electronic ambient Beach Boys-y indie” music scene.
I don’t like Animal Collective or Grizzly Bear.
But I did pick up a real fondness for Beirut eventually

The thing about GB is that
they actually have a good singer (he has soul) and choruses, and pretty music behind it all, while still maintaining the indie aura around them. These are good songs, I think:

I'm a shoegaze fan.
Just leave me alone with copies of Comforts of Madness, Isn’t Anything, and anything by Scott Cortez and I’m a happy hoppy.
dunno, but this video would be awesome on drugs, and it was posted on my b-day
and thx for not pointing out that I quoted fallout boy

Hey, if anyone ever comes to Vegas, BYB party at my house! :)
But in Vegas that just means Bring Your Booze :(
just noticed in my spam email account
the game july 26th is on ESPN sunday night baseball now, thus will be starting at 8:05 EST
and 2 days before, a doubleheader, and the day before, game's at 4:05
Odd weekend we have coming up.
yeah.
kinda sucks for parents that were taking their kids to that game to run the bases. the email now says that will happen AFTER the game? that was about 2 hours past my kid-bedtime if I remember correctly
OT: Did everyone see the inflatable penis on tv yesterday?
I posted the video on my site. Absolutely hilarious if you’re looking for some comic relief
OT but not really since we were talking about music
has anyone heard the new Muse song in its entirety?
egh

I really love them… should be an interesting album
but in all seriousity
Muse were one of the bands that made me want to learn to play guitar and start a band

Ball Four by Jim Bouton
You know that book I said was sitting next to my chair waiting to be picked up? I picked it up a couple of days ago and can’t put it down. It’s is a wonderful read and so honest. ie. baseball players gotta have their greenies, pitchers are obsessed with how their arm feels and how they look on TV, that baseball is completely instinctive, and the pittance of money they made back in the 60’s and 70’s and I’m only on page 85. If you have the book, please read it. It’s worth every minute of time.l
"It's designed to break your heart. The game begins in the spring, when everything is new again, and it blossoms in the summer, filling the afternoons and evenings, and then as soon as the chill rains come, it stops, and leaves you to face the fall alone". A. Bartlett Giamatti

Haha, share the Porcello love.

whatta game on the west coast!
Oakland came back from 10 runs down to the Twins to win 14-13. Matt Holliday was huge, the Twins’ defense was bad and the ump blew the call on the final out.
was ‘watching’ that on game day…and wondering now why I didn’t turn on mlb network where I could have actually watched it…oops.
Didn’t know about the ump blowing the last play, but it sure was fun to watch the Twins lose in such a fashion.
Official BYB Juju Consultant...now accepting rally creature applications!
I just went to mlb.com to check the final score, assuming the Twins blew them away.
I kept looking for MIN in bold white, but didn’t see it. What a disaster to leave Nathan in the pen while the implosion is in progress.
