BYOBYB: Off-Day Open Thread

Okay, that was kind of a rough weekend.  Here at BYB HQ, we've been trying to tell ourselves that there's no shame in getting swept at Yankee Stadium.  But then we think about how the Tigers had a chance to win at least two of the games, if not all three, and then we get cranky, and yell, "What are you looking at?" to anyone nearby.  Hopefully, you are coping better.

If not, there is always "BYOBYB," the off-day open thread where you can chat about anything you'd like: Anything you want to get off your chest about these Detroit Tigers?  Want to talk about Major League Baseball, in general?  Detroit sports, perhaps?  Everyone likes food; you could talk about that.  Seen any good movies or TV recently?

Or you could provide a caption to the above photo.

By the way, it was suggested that a screen shot of Edwin Jackson looking ticked off in the dugout at the end of yesterday's loss be the photo to accompany today's open thread.  I tried, but it didn't turn out very well.

Wow. I hadn't seen that.

Yeat another reason I say you couldn’t pay me enough to stand in against a Verlander or (healthy) Zumaya.

Nah, but "Cinnamon" sounds the most likely

to have a great story about stripping to get through college, and how she’s just a few credits short. “Destiny” would be from BumFucc, IA, and have C-section scars.

I got that beat...

I, too, was engaged to be married once….hell, it was this year, even….she called it off over religious matters back in January, just three months before we were supposed to get married….

And now she’s marrying some other guy next month.

I know there’s something to be said about moving on….but that’s slightly ridiculous, don’tcha think?

I came close to telling this story in the byb introduce yourself thread…didn’t fit the atmosphere then…

Just 3 games.....

…..not a huge deal…..Id be more upset if we were swept by twins or sox…..The division games are much more important……however getting swept is never good…..But not nearly as devistating as it would be against a divison foe…..I think we get back on rack against Seattle…..the bats will wake up…..I really think that they were trying to hit HRs in NY instaed of just hitting the ball hard…..IE all the popups…..Lets see how we feel after the seattle series….My guess is we will be feeling much better and ready to take on the sox…….GO TIGS!!!

I have been wondering for a while now

so maybe you guys can help. I am going to the game on the 25th, against the White Sux. Anyways, Porcello is scheduled to pitch the 26th, and there is a double-header the day before my game. Who do y’all think is pitching?

by Kmann on Jul 20, 2009 3:41 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

My guess is Jackson

JV is scheduled to pitch in the day game Friday. You might be able to figure it out from this probable pitchers schedule. You might be able to deduce from that. Jim has taken things outta whack lately so it’s hard to say.

I mean, one or two songs are good, and those are the ones where it’s mostly harmony vocals, but the majority are like, droning spinning electronic noise. Sometimes it’s annoying, sometimes just boring.

The thing about GB is that

they actually have a good singer (he has soul) and choruses, and pretty music behind it all, while still maintaining the indie aura around them. These are good songs, I think:

Ball Four by Jim Bouton

You know that book I said was sitting next to my chair waiting to be picked up? I picked it up a couple of days ago and can’t put it down. It’s is a wonderful read and so honest. ie. baseball players gotta have their greenies, pitchers are obsessed with how their arm feels and how they look on TV, that baseball is completely instinctive, and the pittance of money they made back in the 60’s and 70’s and I’m only on page 85. If you have the book, please read it. It’s worth every minute of time.l

"It's designed to break your heart. The game begins in the spring, when everything is new again, and it blossoms in the summer, filling the afternoons and evenings, and then as soon as the chill rains come, it stops, and leaves you to face the fall alone". A. Bartlett Giamatti

whatta game on the west coast!

Oakland came back from 10 runs down to the Twins to win 14-13. Matt Holliday was huge, the Twins’ defense was bad and the ump blew the call on the final out.

was ‘watching’ that on game day…and wondering now why I didn’t turn on mlb network where I could have actually watched it…oops.

Didn’t know about the ump blowing the last play, but it sure was fun to watch the Twins lose in such a fashion.
