Game 100 Overflow Thread
We couldn't have the 100th game of the season without the conversation spilling over, could we?
It's a run parade in Texas, with the Tigers leading the Rangers, 12-4, in the seventh inning!

3-2 Twins
End 8.
I’d much rather have the Twins nipping at our rears than the Sox. The Twins aren’t going to go the distance, and if the Sox fade we’ll have a much better chance at the division outright.
Someday...
that bastard Nathan will blow a save. I hope it’s not today.
The Sox losing will make Mark Buerhle Day (no, I’m not kidding) here in Illinois much easier to take.
Agreed
Plus I hate the White Sox much more that I hate the Twins, if only for the memory of Harmon Killebrew.
I would take Buerhle in a heartbeat. DD, make it happen.

I was always a Rod Carew fan too...
and I couldn’t help but like Kirby until the reports came out about him apparently being the world’s worst human being.
so was Mantle
and a whole bunch of other stars. Kirby gave his heart to baseball.

Could go either way. Still have scars from 1987 Twins-Tigs series.

oh god
I hate the Twinkies, the Timberwolves the Vikings, and the Minnesota Wild for that series – and I don’t even like basketball or football, and the Wild didn’t even exist then.

just one or two runs, yet again....sigh....
wait….what? You mean that’s really a TWELVE next to the Tigers???

If I remember right no American League team has scored a run in every single inning.
You still have work to do Tigers.
Correct!
In the AL, no team has gone nine. Yanks did it in 2006, KC in 98.

While I do understand the “back in my day” folks, the way pitchers are developed now this just simply won’t work. Hell, look at The Bird. His career was spectacularly short because he threw so many pitches.
Don’t get me wrong, Ryan was a legendary pitcher and Verlander is shaping up to head in the same direction. The ant-pitch counting lobby just refuses to realize (in most cases) that development of pitching has changed.
by john.kmiecik on Jul 29, 2009 10:42 PM EDT up reply actions
there was an op ed on ESPN about this
forget who wrote it but the gist was that the modern day pitcher exerts more effort in each pitch and so 110-115 pitches back then might have been equivalent to 100 pitches today.

Verlander has pitched well, but...
I don’t see the point of having him throw 115 pitches tonight. The game is over. There’s an offday tomorrow. I’m not a believer in the 100-pitch rule, but why stress the pitcher who already throws the most pitches per game in all of MLB? Meh.
I was surprised to see him trot back out there too
But why mess with his routine? He’s been throwing 105-115 pitches every outing and he’s 2 K’s from a career high, I wouldn’t be surprised if he wanted to go back out there.
I don’t get putting Inge in…

Justin Verlander gets what Justin Verlander wants.
Remember the CG in game one of the doubleheader on Friday? The bullpen was firing in the 7th and Verlander got out of it. He went to the dugout, and suddenly the bullpen was silenced.

A doubleheader at the beginning of a critical series is one thing.
A game where you’re up 9 with an offday tomorrow is entirely different.
