16 Innings! Tigers Win, Sleep Loses!

You know the drill.  We'll have a proper recap tomorrow.  We think.  I mean, that's a lot of baseball to go over again.

But this picture of Brandon Inge seems to say so much about this long, tortured slog of a game.  (Not that we're complaining about the final result.)  It was painful, it was freaky, but we are all better people for having endured it.

Has there ever been a Comeback Player of the Game award handed out?  Because Placido Polanco should really get one after taking a foul ball where no man should ever take it, but then shaking that off and driving in three runs, including the go-ahead score.  It was an inspiring performance, for baseball and physiological reasons.

And hey, at least we don't have to worry about the Tigers getting swept at the Metrodome now.

UPDATE (10:45 a.m.): We're not going to have time to write out a full recap, unfortunately.  So COTN goes here.  (Thanks to Kurt for the suggestion, saving me from a gargantuan task.)

EDIT: And your runner-up, for picking the over.

Thanks to everyone who participated in that 16-inning theme ride park of emotions last night.  Almost 2200 comments is amazing.  Earlier in the day, I really did think we'd have a small turnout because of the holiday.  I know nothing.  Happy 4th of July to you!

Polanco manned up.

And even Magglio drove in a run!

and we’ll still be in first place when the weekend ends, regardless of what happens.

Hopefully...

We can maintain this lead until the 24th, when we play the White Sox again.

When I first read that I thought you were talking about the 24th inning.

That was exhausting. But worth it in the end. :-)

Combine all four threads:

608 + 574 + 560 + 446 = 2188

if my math is right.

It was fun!

We had to win.

Now this is OT, but I just read that the Mets signed 16 year old, I think his first name is Juan, Urbina. Yep, Ugueth’s son.

Total bullcrap!

I mean, it’s not like today is a holiday or something! It’s not like we were up until 5:00am watching this game!

Recap! Recap! Recap!

At least it's baseball

I am going to the movies this afternoon

because I can not take the monotone commentary when the game is on FOX instead of FSD. The national commentators suck… Blagh

Oooh

what are you going to see? Johnny Depp? Megan Fox? Hangover? Star Trek?

by Tagne13 on Jul 4, 2009 12:39 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Pubic Enemies

I love Johnny Depp. I saw Star Trek a few weeks ago (and I still have a chubby from that one, best Star Trek movie evar)

Definitely in my top 3 actors

Prob somewhere behind Matt Damon though. I just seem to like everything he does….well, both of them.

He used to be my all-time favorite looking man ( and is still my #1 actor)

until you know who came along…. and like you, I think Matt Damon is excellent. Jason Bourne is the man.

last Fox broadcast

I listened to the radio. Of course I think it was a home game so Dickerson was calling it.

Just a great win

It felt so good, lets do it again today.

Just in nine innings this time, okay? :)

We know how to play nine

but I don’t think the Twins are smart enough to count…

They should be fine

They won’t have to take off their shoes or anything, just fingers will suffice for counting to nine. :)

LOL

that reminds me of a scene from Seinfeld where George gets that job with the Yankees and he walks into the diner and says. “Greetings. Greetings and salutations, people. It’s a great day for a ballgame, let’s play two”.

LMAO. I love that one too. George follows the guy to Jersey because he thought he was giving him the finger. hahahaha.

Can't forget 100% cotton uniforms

or him trying to get fired and wearing the bodysuit and dragging the trophy around the parking lot

by Tagne13 on Jul 4, 2009 3:35 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

That's one of my favorites

lol. They played the best they ever played, until the uniforms were laundered. Or how about Steinbrenner getting hooked on calzones and George getting banned from the pizza joint for wanting the guy to “see” him putting the tip in the jar…all classics

Also note to Jim

I watched the post game last night, and I didn’t hear him say anything about extra innings being his fault (which I think it was). If he had let the kid continue for another inning or two we may not have gotten into that mess in the first place. I wonder if he wants to kick himself in the ass when he does things like that?
