Game 79 Overflow Thread #3
The next Overflow Thread might just be the preview for Saturday afternoon's game. If this game ends before the next game. If it doesn't, there could be some warp in the space-time continuum. Who wants that?
Tigers and Twins still tied, going to the bottom of the 15th.

The Tigers lost to the Yankees in 22 innings on Sunday, June 24, 1962, at Tiger Stadium.
Some of the interesting events included the game-winning two-run homer by Jack Reed (off Phil Regan), who did not hit another big league home run, seven hits by Rocky Colavito, and eleven at-bats for Bobby Richardson, tying a record. The winning pitcher was rookie Jim Bouton.
The game was called at an even 7 hours by Detroit Free Press sportswriter Joe Falls, who was the official scorer for that game. However, Joe later admitted he fudged the time by a minute. It was the longest game in history, and Joe figured if he was going to sit there for 6 hours and 59 minutes, who would care if he added a measly 60 seconds? The press box cheered when he made his time announcement.

Extra inning baseball is rough.
Especially when you screw up and let the other team tie the game.

Three thoughts:
1. Why can’t any Tigers pitcher throw strikes to Nick Punto? He has drawn a ridiculous number of walks this year from us, especially for someone with a low batting average and no power, and a lot of those walks have led to big rallies.
2. Can Zach Miner not pitch for the rest of the series? I don’t know why, but he has pitched really badly at the Metrodome this year.
3. This game is gonna screw up the entire bullpen (and possibly the rotation) for the rest of the weekend, isn’t it?

Hey everybody, think how down you were when you checked on your cell phone expecting to see a 7-something Tigers victory only to see a mysterious 7-7 tie.
