Game 112 Overflow Thread #2
We're currently waiting out a rain delay in the seventh inning. Nothing like making a long night longer. This is totally killing any adrenaline buzz that THE FIGHT created.
On the bright side, this should take Chris "Batting Practice" Lambert out of the game. On the downside, the guy who came in for Kevin Youkilis has hit two home runs for the Red Sox. Weren't you supposed to be hurt, Mike Lowell?
Red Sox 6, Tigers 3, as we wait to see if this game will resume.

Looking at the radar...
…it does NOT look as though this rain’s gonna go on all night. And I know it seems like the Red Sox have an eleven-run lead or something, but it IS only 6-3. It’s starting to get a bit on the late side for a comeback, though.

So, just to make things clear...
Was Porcello ejected for throwing at Kevin Youkilis or for fighting with him? Because from the look of that YouTube video, he looked more like he was trying to defend himself than anything else.

This may sound negative...
but it’s from someone who has traveled for 16 hours today. I love the fact that Rick stood up for his teammates. But to risk being tossed in a game this big is just awful. We had to have this win. Porcello gets tossed, likely suspended. We just our third starter for a minimum of two outings. I love the spirit, but boy, his timing was horrible.
Plus, we’re playing in a park that screams out for home runs to be hit. How many have we hit in two days off of pitchers screaming out to give up home runs? Zero.
Beckett throws tomorrow. Yikes. Lotsa heat on JV for Thursday.

Bah.
Stupid Tigers. :(
Next time could you please score in an inning other than JUST the first and last?

They are very careful to say "scheduled"

Well, it'll give him an opportunity to prove to me that he's not injured...
…although the problem with Galarraga is that even when he’s in form, his success lies in getting hitters to swing at stuff out of the strike zone, and the Red Sox just don’t do that.

There's still time for that to change

I gotta think with Porcello going out early
Armando has to start, can’t afford another spot starter now. I guess we’ll see if CWS pick up ground.
maybe
if he feels better. Wouldn’t it be great if they pushed JV up a day because Armando is still under the weather.

It's not a matter of if-
it’s a matter of how many games. This was a rookie, against the Red Sox, in Fenway.
oops fail
That’s what I thought too. Rod seems to think otherwise.

That might be what frustrates me most
We had a very realistic chance of winning before…everything. Now we’re down 0-2 halfway through the series. I just hope they get pissed about tonight and come out swinging tomorrow.

by kendra.michelle on Aug 12, 2009 12:48 AM EDT up reply actions
That's why I maintain that hitting Youkilis in the second inning was kind of a big lapse in judgement.
If he wants to hit him, wait until later in the game when the the bullpen is set up a little bit better.
http://tigersamateuranalysis.blogspot.com
by SabreRoseTiger on Aug 12, 2009 1:10 AM EDT up reply actions
It wasn't intentional
at least that’s what Beck is reporting. And I believe it. I mean, he’s not an idiot, it would’ve made no sense for him to do that on purpose.
by kendra.michelle on Aug 12, 2009 1:12 AM EDT up reply actions
The fact that he threw a pitch way inside to Victor Martinez would support that argument...
…and he’s probably telling the truth, but at the same time, you’re not gonna ’fess up to hitting someone intentionally.

I know this is a little far fetched
but maybe Youklis went after Porcello on purpose, on the chance Kid Rick would be tossed for brawling. Thus screwing up out general game plan

'Bout time for me to turn in as well
I got to go to UT to buy textbooks and get my financial aid situation sorted out, and then I have a doctor’s appointment, so it’s a busy day for me. I will probably NOT participate in tomorrow night’s Game Thread, but I may turn up if Galarraga does not start.
’Night everyone.
