Updated top 10
1. Casey Crosby, LHP
2. Jacob Turner, RHP
3. Alex Avila, C
4. Daniel Fields, SS
5. Wilkin Ramirez, OF
6. Ryan Streiby, LF/1B
7. Andrew Oliver, LHP
8. Scott Sizemore, 2B
9. Alfredo Figaro, RHP
10. Cale Iorg, SSMind you, I probably overvalue Avila and I’m going by gut on the other new draftees. But gun to head, this is probably how I arrange the system now.

I think...
You put Oliver too high. I think he is a Matt Thorton at best…not a starting pitcher.
You put Ryan Streiby too high. No defense really hurts his chances.
I think Scott Sizemore should be higher than both
And I no longer think Iorg should be on that list.

I can buy the Oliver argument
But I really really like Ryan Streiby’s bat- even as a DH, he’s good. Sizemore could be up at 6 though- I can understand that line of thinking.
Iorg is on that list, but he’s interchangeable with a few other players.

Can you see Streiby being a Billy Butler type player?

I think that's his celiing
But Butler is a very good comp. Mind you, Butler is a very, very good hitter, so maybe 85% of what Butler is would be more appropriate, but that’s the exact thing that I thought.

Also,
Isn’t Turner’s soft stuff way more polished than Crosby’s?
If so, I would think to make Turner #1.

hard to rank guys that haven't faced minor leaguers yet
this is far too early to forecast the rooks’ abilities… putting Turner at #2 only sets him up for failure in the eyes of those who complain about his ERA if it goes above 4 next season

Projectability
This is why I didn’t rank Turner #1 (also, see my signature- I am incredibly biased). But it’s important to remember that I’m not slotting Turner in front of a stack of blue chip prospects- he may not have faced minor leaguers, but he projects well and has great stuff.

Kurt...
You are as pessimistic about prospects as I am optimistic.

Traded emails with one of the writers from TigsTown this morning and he and I are somewhat in agreement that Iorg gets bounced out for Wade Gaynor who was chosen in the 3rd round (though has not had a lot of luck as a pro so far).
I think once you get past Turner, Crosby, Sizemore, Fields, Oliver, Gaynor and Streiby there are any number of guys who could fill in.

I'd consider Gaynor
Though I’m skeptical of him (and like him at the same time- I’m a paradox machine), he could slot in the bottom of this top ten or the bottom half of my old top ten. I just want to see some results from him next year, as well as some reports on his defense.
