Game 120 Afterglow Thread

Just like that, a bleak, rainy, sure-to-be-a-loss afternoon turns into a bright, sunshiny, call-it-another-comeback win!
Down 6-2 and facing a series loss to the Mariners (their second of the season at home), the Tigers found their rally caps during a one-hour rain delay, and roared back to a 7-6 victory, thanks to Clete Thomas's rocket down the right field line that drove in Miguel Cabrera.
Apologies for the extreme close-up. Kind of caught up in the moment.
Full recap later this evening. Enjoy the afterglow!

I'm glowing like a pregnant woman right now
(people usually tell pregnant women that they’re glowing, right?)

My sister wasn't glowing when she was pregnant
She was prone to glowering, however – her temper increased a bit. :)

With the power of starting Detroit Tiger rallies?
While a good power for the baseball season it is kind of useless in most situations.
Now I'm trying to figure out what kind of powers you would get from a radioactive aardvark.

Hahaha.
The aardvark has great juju. I just got home too late last night to post it in a timely manner. And I nominate this for our official Afterglow Thread Mascot.
This is going to be a great evening.
Basking in the glow of a comeback win and eating leftover ribs. Oh and cheering for Toronto.
i really hate
this team…but more so im really disgruntled with the AL Central as a whole.

now there's something I never thought to do
note to self: go troll the white sox forum whenever they win.
Hey
I got trolled earlier from someone named Where Triples Go To Die. He thought my remark about the Sox not getting another off-day was meant as an insult.

Sometimes facts hurt.
It will be tough on them, though.

In all fairness, though
Back when my blog was at its old site, I had a reader who was a White Sox/Royals fan and he was never douchey with me. We were actually quite polite to one another.

I just realized the best part of this, for me.
When they show Binge’s Web Gems on ESPN tonight, they will not have to end it by saying “the Tigers though went on to lose that game.”
They could get all their web gems from this one game.

I hope they will spread them out
and not combine them all in 1 or 2 spots. And I obviously hope Ingey gets in the top 2 spots.
Spoiler alert!
Some of us are working on a recap! ;-)

Note to self.
Don’t link Freep photos any more. They change numerous times.

OMG
amazing I needed to take a nap and left down big and was not expecting this!
Zach Miner and Seay with some nice innings for us!

And another miracle was performed!
didn't seem so bad, the few times I've looked in

I popped in to Lookout Landing
They seem very hung up on rules – no lol, no brb, no +1, you MUST use proper grammar and capitalization …
I usually do that, but it depends on how extensive my comment is. If it’s a full thought, I develop it fully, including complete sentences – conversely, if I want to express a chuckle or affirmative nod, there is no real substitute for the actual body language, but an lol or emoticon comes pretty close and is widely understood.
I’m surprised they don’t have a little sign in their banner that says “NO EMOTICONS ALLOWED!” It’s just the internet and there are far worse things than using shorthand and abbreviations for longer concepts and phrases. Lighten up, peoples.

In certain cases, I'm the same
I have to admit, I hate the “first” thing…the once I’ve played along, I crowned myself King Internet Dork for the evening. The thing is, if we’re on BYB, then we’re watching, or following a baseball GAME. Exciting things happen in a baseball game. The niceties of language and grammar often get swept up in that excitement.
I’m a person who has argued often against the Internetization of language, and said that eventually, it’s going to return us to primordial grunts.
That said, I’m here to hang out with fellow Tigers fans, and people I’ve come to regard as friends, though we haven’t and may never meet. Rules be damned, I LIKE our community the way it is. And I’m sure they feel the same about theirs. Except for the damning of the rules.
(as an aside…I got a chuckle out of thinking about how long our old pal bennie might last over there before getting banned for breachin’ the regulations….)

He'd violate an ellipsis rule for sure. :)
I guess I’m old enough to differentiate between different styles of typing and cope with different levels of formality. Heck, I even type two spaces after every period because that was how I learned in typing class in junior high, but when I am emailing my sister I’ll use excessive dashes, all caps for emphasis, and emoticons that I would never dream of using in a more formal setting. Same way here, where it is more conversational and if I were actually talking I would use a “Woohoo!” or two, whereas if I were giving a presentation or speaking on the phone with a customer, I never would do so.
I think as long as someone still knows HOW to properly write, and WHEN the situation calls for it, internetization is pretty harmless. The problem is people who do not know how to express themselves when lol and :) are taken away.

I see nothing wrong with emoticons or lol
Saying “that was funny” instead of “lol” sounds a little too formal. Outside of that, I know I use lots of big words and such, but I generally write the way I talk. But, it’s BASEBALL, not English class.

Plus, lol is quicker to type.
That way the response to the funny comment is near immediate as an actual laugh would be, instead of delayed. The best thing about this kind of format is the conversational aspect of it – worrying too much about proper grammar and sentence structure is less important than treating people with some level of respect. As long as it isn’t so abyssmal that it is incomprehensible, I might tease about it but I don’t do so with malice.

I actually like those rules.
It’s their playground and their rules; that’s how I see it. I actually enjoy reading things there because of the strict enforcement.
Of course “chat speak” and the like don’t bother me too much.
I missed this for hockey?
Shame…

Wasn't sure which feed I had for this Toronto - Boston game
Till I heard the announcer say “That’s one oot.”

replay time for me :)
Although I do wonder why FSD doesn’t have the replay text in the upper right corner of the screen under FSTIGERS.
