Game 123 Overflow Thread
So this is how the Tigers want to play in the one game of this series that more people were likely to watch? Did the west coast time change finally catch up with these guys?
Jack Cust, however, seems plenty comfortable with how things are going today.
Oakland has a 5-2 lead over Detroit, heading into the bottom of the seventh inning. How many more aardvark images can the BYB Bunch find to stoke a rally?

So is Scott Mitchell a former Lions quarterback?
The only Lions I know are Barry Sanders and Jason Hanson (I’m very much not a football fan).

Yes. Had one fantastic year. The rest, not so much.

Yes, Scott Mitchell was a mediocre quarterback for the Lions who had one good year

Mitchell was a little more than a Lions quarterback.
Basically the living embodiment of everything wrong with the Lions franchise in a single player.
I'm plenty old enough to remember
I blame non-football-awareness.

That's probably the first time where he's cost the Tigers something
But Raburn did the same thing on Friday, and Santiago probably should’ve called him off regardless

My scientific background
leads me to look for explanations for phenomena that make no sense according to all known laws of nature. :)
The Tigers would stump Steven Hawking and Albert Einstein both.

Hey, I'm the person who wants every pitch and swing analyzed to death (though not in a sabermetric or mathematical fashion)...
But I did say at the beginning of the year that the Tigers had the ability to be good. The pitching and defense has lived up to that (though not today), but the offense hasn’t really.

Yeah
If you want to look at it from a Saber perspective, it’s because these Tigers are actually really good at preventing runs, especially via the groundball out.

personally, I think it goes back to how good of a manager Jim is
a good manager wins with a mediocre team
Really? More awful than the Washington Nationals? The Pittsburgh Pirates?
by Ian Casselberry on Aug 23, 2009 6:15 PM EDT up reply actions
I didn’t say the most awful and my post was mostly out of frustration, but the Nationals and Pirates probably have more guys who know their role on a daily basis. Outside of Miguel, who is constantly at 1B, batting 3rd or 4th, it seems everyone else is getting mixed and matched on a day-by-day basis. No one can mentally transition from game to game because they don’t know whether they’ll be in the lineup or not. Starting September 1st (or earlier), JL needs to pick the lineup he thinks can give Detroit the best chance to win every night and roll with it everyday. I feel like he’s becoming too much like Trammell playing numbers and averages and situations.
I have not been impressed with Avila's throwing
He’s only gotten one guy so far
http://tigersamateuranalysis.blogspot.com
this is why we will keep Laird around
to groom the boy
Welcome to Detroit>>Where the weak are killed and eaten.
Laird is a huge part of this team, really.
His ability to shut down a running game is one of the only true advantages we have over the White Sox.
I LOVE THESE GUYS!!!!!
but I will complain when they don’t play well. No other team for me.
Welcome to Detroit>>Where the weak are killed and eaten.
Between innings...
does anyone have a shot of Mitchell dressing up as Wayne Fontes for Halloween? Ah, the memories.
I need to get going.
I was hoping I’d get to leave on a happier note.
It would be nice to come home to a surprise.

We WILL have both Polanco and Avila in the ninth...
I would like it very much if Avila would make up for allowing that stolen base earlier
http://tigersamateuranalysis.blogspot.com
Here's my scenario for the 9th...
Chosen One doubles.
Polly moves him to third with a ground ball to the right side as professionals should.
Razor singles him home.
Grandy doubles to the gap to score Razor.
Sound good?

Tough one
I still have yet to see all of the Kill Bill movies, I haven’t seen Jackie Brown and I’ve got to get around to seeing Reservoir Dogs eventually (like I said, new fanboy). From what I have seen (Death Proof, Pulp Fiction, Inglorious Basterds) I’ve got to say that it’s Inglorious Basterds followed closely by Pulp Fiction with Death Proof pulling up the rear. Of course, I really want to see Kill Bill, but I want to take the time to watch the two movies together.

I've always been a QT fan
that’s why I opted for IB instead of D9 this weekend

I think it’s slightly overrated- my roommate’s a huge QT fan and he prefers Kill Bill Vol 2 to it- but it’s still a very good movie.

but I don’t recall Ni being stretched that long in a game before. Should have been taken out.

Someone care to explain to me why we're even pitching to him there?
Um, walk, for play at home on a ground ball, oh, whatever.
Nice job, guys.
But it was "landon powell"
who, as someone else pointed out earlier, sounds like he should be the fussy English voiceover guy for an ancient history program on PBS or the history channel

Should have stayed away
That way, I wouldn’t have seen the 5-4 score, got my hopes up, and then got the heart ripped out.

not even poop sandwiches?
I can’t give Arby’s any sandwiches – I’m all out of roast beef. I could give them grilled cheese, though.

for sure
Weren’t we complaining about that, too? I thought we were pointing out how lousy the pitching was earlier. I’d hate to have any of the Tigers feel left out.
